Has anyone bought a front and rear set of standard brakepads for a X1 Lightning lately ?
If you havent then you are in for a shock .
I have just come back from my local Harley dealership withj my jaw on the ground , it took me ages to get home ! , they quoted me £138 for front and rear ,assuming they got the right part numbers as they said the numbers had been changed 3 times !
I know original stock is running down but this is taking the piss .
I tried the adrenalin moto/trojan horse website but they dont even list it , so , through the wonders of the internet I tracked down a company in the Netherlands that stock major amounts of Buell bits for all models .
They stock the pads : 28.44 euro front and 25.77 euro rear, they also offer Galfer sintered pads for not much more .

So if anyone is interested and/or not found the site yet :

EBC 249HH for the front and 140HH for the rear.......best sintered pads you will ever use, cheap as chips and readily available from just about anywhere.

:yt: I've used the EBC pads for over 40000 miles on mine ......excellent pads and virtually no wear on the discs ...... and like Maz pointed out ANY motorcycle place can get you EBC pads ;)

Thanks all for the info . I went to my local bike store , well , Hein Gerrick at Maidstone , who told me after looking at the new EBC catalogue that they dont even list Buell !
I gave them the part numbers that Maz gave me , thanks for that , and they will contact EBC on wednesday .
fingers crossed they will get them , although I know that I can get them from EBC direct I thought to save the £8.50 carriage charge
But they did stock the standard EBC rear pads for £19.95 , bit better than Harley at £60.00 plus !
Let you know what answer EBC give the shop

If EBC has them in stock...

As far as I'm aware 1125 pads are still on back order from the states.

Hi all , finally got an answer back from hein gerrich they would only quote rear pads at £26 set , so not much help .

Many thanks to Maz and Pash for the EBC part numbers and the link to em
I have got em from good old Ebay for a total price of £39.40 - bit better than £138 from Harley

:yup:

Just got back from a week away in Prague and on the train back met up with a couple comeing back from the Belgium BBQ - sorry didnt get your names - and they said they just had a new set of pads on their XB12 for £118 fitted - someone is starting to make a lot of money from us , if we are not careful .

Just as a diversion from above I have been looking at the forum about the best Buell - without blowing my own trumpet - wait till you see mine ! you will need sunglases cos its that shiny ! spent the winter repolishing it - hopefully at the Emma Radford Festival

I'll need to check the rule book but I'm pretty sure you won't have the best Buell, unless it's pissing down and no-one else turns up.

Hi Jeff, I realised after we left the train I hadn't introduced myself or asked your forum name. I've just checked my paperwork and the pads for my XB were £69.15 after discount plus VAT. Total cost including half hour labour was £110, so a little cheaper than I said. It saved me having either try and do the job myself, or having to listen to the other half cursing and swearing whilst doing the job for me... lOl

There must be folks local who could have helped you change them instead of paying the stealers :?

And as well as using eBay, I got us a discount at brakes4u.co.uk...

With our discount they should have cost a tad over £40 delivered...

It was just a matter of convenience...I was in the area, they had the parts, they had someone available to fit them for me, at short notice, so I just paid up for an easy life. I know they were fitted properly so there were no issues....and everyone lived happily ever after..... :sun: lOl

And expensive brake pads aren't restricted to Harley dealers ........................most franchised dealers pads whether bike or car are very expensive compared to aftermarket pads.

Standard pads are crap too.......just about any of the aftermarket items are far superior.
