Post subject: FS drive belt tensioner
PostPosted: 26 Sep 2011 18:10
Hi ,
got my new FS tensioner from Trojan Horse , thanks guys , thought I would have a go at fitting it yesterday , all was going well but trying to loosen the spindle was a bitch , my bike kit seems to be missing the axle key tool , so I found a sparkplug socket with the same hex size as the spindle and shoved an extension bar into it the wrong way , took all my weight to shift it , thought my paddock stand was going to buckle first , finally got it moving with a long torque wrench , god knows what it was torqued up to , there was loads of copper slip all over it so not seized , unlike the alloy tension wheel holder bracket , which was well stuck .

Does the axle really need to be that tight ? :ill:

Where was the copa-slip? I think it was more likely seized than over torqued (50ft lbs - however you only need to tighten it sufficiently to pull the bearings up against the swinging arm).

If it was overtorqued, get yourself a new bearing spacer.

...and a new torque wrench too, if you used that much force to loosen something with it.... :o

The copper slip was all over the axle , both ends , just been serviced + new tyre too , so its been off / out quite recently .
My torque wrench is a bit of a monster so no damage there thanks , I think it was used on the railways ?
Yea , I fully undid the pinch bolt , even took it right out , it was all coppered up too .
The only thing that was seized was the tensioner wheel bracket .
A new bearing spacer sounds like a good idea .
Anyway its all gone back together and seems ok ( touch wood )
Just waiting for my exhaust to come back from Steve at Sabre , he has kept me up to date through its transition with texts , pics and E-mails , top bloke , then I will take her for a run and re-check everything .
Just done the breather mod too . :D

Cheers ,

Mike.
