Post subject:  First ride on my new Buell Uly

Hi everyone ,
went for my first ride on my 'new ' (07) Buell Ulysses last night ,
wow ! what a bike , being a dedicated sports bike rider the riding position is a revelation , I felt like a sail at first but soon got used to it , no wrist , back or hip ache - brilliant .
Now that I know I love it I am planning the mods ,
I have fitted a tank pad , crash bobbins and got a Micron rear stand , I would like to fit the grease nipple mod from Maz , a FS tensioner , an Albert can ( or Sabre mod , not sure yet , have sent Al a message to ask for the price ) do the lights on mod and add some red stripes to the wheel rims , all my gear is red and black so I wanted the bike to match me for a change , besides good kit is expensive these days and I would rather spend my hard earned modding the Buell than changing my gear just for the sake of a good colour match ?
Gonna miss my Triumph Thruxton though , she was a real beauty , still I would rather be blasting about on my Buell than polishing my trumpet ;)

Cheers ,

Mike.

Glad you're enjoying it. :yup:
I'd have kept the Thruxton as well. ;)

I wanted to keep the Thruxton , it was a bit of a toss up between it and my Fireblade , the Blade won , I just didnt have the room to keep all three .
I got the Uly from Murrays Motorcycles up in Dundee , from a great guy called Gordon , it was on E-bay , he did me a deal and even delivered it , arrived the same day , thats what I call service . :D

The first investment should be the belt tensioner and grease nipple then an Albert. Worry about the bling later :)

:yt: .....and most importantly, when riding a Buell, is not to care whether your clothing and bike match! ;)

Congrats and hope you enjoy it :) .

Got the tensioner as priority , same as the Grease nipple , still not sure about the exhaust thing , been up reading all the threads 'till the early hours , can't decide between Sabre or Albert . I like the stainless idea of the Albert but all the stuff that goes with removing the exhaust valve has me 'baffled' .
I hear you about the matching gear , guess old habbits die hard , too much reading sports bike mags I guess , having said that I have introduced a little red onto my black Uly , I just love the whole red & black idea .

Go the Albert if you can afford it, go the Sabre if you can't :D

The Sabre mod is great for the money (about £100), sounds awesome and truly top blokes to deal with too... but it's a stock can so will rust eventually... but it's awesome until then!

The Albert is about £300 notes (depending on config) and looks and sounds fab!

I love my Uly. It's my 3rd (after trying various other bikes, swapping and changing... I'm fickle like that!

Currently modding it... http://www.ukbeg.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=9621

Anyhoo... enjoy it!

Thanks Stinkerbill ,
I know what you mean , Ulys are ace .
I think I have decided to go the Sabre Route for now and maybe get an Albert later on ( if funds allow )
Your modded Uly pics look brill , best of all worlds .
I have started my mods , done the light fix , got a grease nipple sorted , fitted a tank pad and wheel tripes , won a right hand air scoop off E-bay and ordered a FS belt tensioner from Trojan - anyone know if Trojan are still trading , I have just read about someone asking the same thing on another site from the US , I got the order confirmation e-mail etc. ok , just wondering , I might ring them tomorrow to make sure all is well .
Next thing is to take off my exhaust , looks fiddly but it was getting dark by then , I hate winter .

contact free spirits themselves http://www.freespirits.it/ if your having troubles. Exhaust is a easy though remember to put the hangers back in the right place and all 3.

I think Lightning Services stock FS tensioners too (they were always the cheapest place):

Thanks Guys :D
Do I have to disconnect the line running through the rear exhaust mount ?

Post subject:  Re: First ride on my new Buell Uly

Eh?

The rear of the exhaust is just held in place by the 2 metal straps. Not sure what you mean by the 'line'?

You'll need to undo the front strap, then the rear ones, then disconnect the exhaust valve cable (dead easy) - best to have something under the exhaust (a jack or just something to take the weight of the pipe when both front and rear straps are undone)

You may find your rear straps' tightening nuts are behind your tensioner pulley... in which case you may have to remove it to get to them.

Top tip, turn the rear exhaust straps around so the nuts are on the left-hand side of the bike so you don't need to remove the pulley next time you want to fiddle with your exhausts :yup:

It's all really easy once you get going.

Nice one Stinkerbill ,thanks ,
there is an oil line running through the half moon alloy spacer block , exhaust hanger type thingy , but , thanks to your advice it sounds like I can leave it in situ .

Went out again last night for a blast , took the back roads upto Scarborough , found myself grinning like an idiot watching my mate bouncing around on his VFR 400 , also found at low speeds my nose and top lip itches with the thrumming of the motor , still cant get over how the thing lunges forward on the slightest whiff of throttle , awesome stuff , you guys were right about clutchless changes too , tried it once or twice , felt like a giant boot up the arse , nearly fell off the back .

I love this forum .

Phew !
I hate plumbing of any kind , always seem to end up weeping , me and the joint .

Just fitted the Maz grease nipple mod , went very well , great piece of kit , thanks again Maz. :worthy:

Anyone out there ever owned SK07 DPE , black Uly ? she has had 3 owners before me but only just over 3k miles on the clock , just wondering if there was anything wrong or she was just misunderstood ? :?

Cheers .
