Just back from a great trip to the Black Forest. Uly went really well. No drivebelt problems this time. Very comfortable ride. Thinking about Scandinavia for next year's big trip? Bike has now done nearly 17k miles in 16 months. Will take to HD dealer (where purchased) for service and and any warranty work needed soon.
Front disc brake did start to pulse a bit whilst away - but after cleaning when I got home (it seemed to be 'greasy') is alot better. Will try giving it a more thorough degreasing and see if that does the trick. On a promise for a new stove enamelled exhaust box under warranty - will try for a new set of pipes as well - there's a wee bit of rust beginning where the pipe connects with the cylinder head - tut tut!
Reckon to change the drive belt at/before next 10k miles - and keep / carry the old one on big trips as a spare. Bit of a hassle - but probably worth it?!
Still have original wheel and headstock bearings - should I be thinking about getting these replaced sometime soon I wonder?
Started using the Uly to commute (40 miles return) - whilst the weather stays reasonable Now sharing the one car with wife (My old Ford Probe had to go in the end!). Happy commuting!!

Lovely area this time of year - Did you get as far as Lake Constance? I'd happily retire there.

You don't want to get caught Probing Fords though.

I'd certainly change the wheel bearings before thinking about the belt.

+1 Mine's had no problems either (13K miles). Then again, it's been serviced by Black Bear and Maz, so I should think not!!

The only issue bugging me is the very scruffy looking headers. Might have to treat the bike to something new and shiny in 2012.

Mine loves the really long trips. Did the Nurburgring late last year and it never skipped a beat. Love it.

norway is absolutely fab you must go there if you get the chance i went to the north cape a few years back still think about it all the time, most beautiful place ive ever been and the roads are wicked.

Unfortunately, mine is sat in Black Bear with a snapped rear spindle when they tried to take the wheel out to change tyres, it had seized solid (can't fault BB - they tried everything, the damn spindle had actually twisted and snapped wtf?? - wheel last removed by Cheltenham Harley so only been touched in dealers).
2 and a half hours back on the train in full leathers was fun though - NOT!!! didn't feel like much of a twat - honest.
Anyone got any tips on how to not have a reoccurence??

Oh - and I can't believe that to get a new spindle requires ordering a new back wheel - thanks guys - at least there was that spare one in the workshop

How many times have I posted on here about this .......both axles must be kept greased (pref. copperslip) and I always recommend periodic losening/re-torquing to keep them from seizing.

BTW, there is a method of moving even the most solidly seized axle.......

I seem to remember having to use straps on the arm to aid the axle one time.

How do you remove even the most solidly seized axle ?
I had to swing on mine the other day to get it to shift .
