Post subject:  High Speed Front End Wobble!

Hi Guys,

has anyone else experienced a high speed front wheel wobble pls?
I has the bike servcied a couple of months ago and since then the front end fights me a bit at 100mph+? Its fine up to 90mph, solid as a rock, then it starts to shake a bit, then increases up to 100mph when it is a little severe. (i've not tried speeding through it to see if it clears!).
Could it be wheel balancing?(i doubt it as it was fine a couple of months ago..)
Could it front fork set up?
or rear suspension??
Do i need a steering stabaliser? can anyone reccomend one? (i dont think i do)

any advice would be greatly appreciated
cheers

Chris

What bike is it?

(that really should be one of the emoticons)

It's tyre pressures or too large a front screen, but what bike is it anyway?

Which service was it? Were the head bearings replaced?

It is not wheel balancing, not if you have to "fight" the bike. Don't understand why "it was fine up to a few months ago" means that it can't be wheel balancing, as the weights can come off at any time, but they do not usually give wobbles that you need to fight.

IMO.

Has it got the correct tyres on?

No, I would not try that myself. Is it a Uly.

I only hear of it with the Uly. Does it happen with the other XBs as well.

Sorry typed out a really long post then lost it!!!
anyhow,
its a xb9s. I have checked there are no weights missing on the wheel.....
Also dont know if the steering head bearing were replaced, it was a 10,000 mile service?
Although i think it got worse after the service...thinking about it, on the way back from bodmin where it was serviced, i opened her up and went straight as an arrow up to 130mph with no trouble. so although it has got worse since then i dont think its connected ....
It has a lot of carbon fibre.... screen, mudguard, belly pan, air intake etc, but this should help/hinder should it?
thanks for all the replies so far......

No, same tyres as before... couldnt be pressure could it? I pumped them up again last week, (i have a foot pump with gauge). Maybe I should double check at a service station?

In that case you may have a leak. Do not trust service station gauges. Ok on a car but for a bike, no. As little as 2 PSI on some bikes can be felt on the road. Or I can anyway.

Does the wobble stop if you back off the gas.

I find the LCD Digi ones good and cheap, £10 ish. From Halfords and places like that.

I had it with my Uly and did sort it but on a change of tyres it came back. In the end I backed off the rear pre-load and it is fine now but think it was down to front tyre pressure.

All in all I think it is just a tyre pressure and or suspension setup thing. It could be other things, like bearings, but not being "hands on" to check out the bike it is hard to say 100%.

Ask the people who serviced your bike what they did to it as they may have changed something.

Dey-do-do-dat-dey-do sometimes
