| Post subject: | wheels... |
Was cleaning the bike a few days ago and when i cleaned the wheels loads of the paint (more like a plastic coating actually) came off so im now left with big patches of silver on orange wheels. so.... is there any touch up paint i can get for the wheels? cant afford a new set so did think about having them powder coated, anyone else got any ideas? |

I have had wheels powdercoated by Griffs - http://www.realitymotorworks.com/ A black pair would suit your image...  Cost was about 60 notes per wheel (with the tyres and bearings already removed). They are OK, but the coating is as hard as I thought it would be. Cruise over one day and I will show you... There may be some better recommendations for places to go... There's a place in Southampton I use, Trestan metal finishers, £25-£30 a wheel. They do a lot of Motorcycle stuff. They also do Stove enameling and Two pack spray finishes, all very reasonable. |

If Trestan are recommended, I think I will have mine done there!! |

Be very careful when choosing a powder coater. As a rule of thumb, avoid anyone who usually does garden furniture and wrought iron gates, as these firms will usually blast your surfaces using slag or coarse grit and will not de-gas any aluminium before coating. I also know some places that touch in any imperfections using a paintbrush after baking. Reality (Griff's) are top notch who only deal with motorcycles... Ok - maybe the occasional classic landrover or aircraft, if they know you. No, I am not on a retainer for giving them a plug

Just wondered if the Southamptong guys were a reliable firm... cheaper and no further away than Chichester. |

I use them on a almost weekly basis (Trestans ) they are cheap but they do a first class job. The place is full of Bike parts, Classics ,Harleys and Scooters. The owner Andy, and some of his staff own Bikes. They are located next door to Attitude customs who also have their stuff done there. Depending on colour there is a quick turnaround. Several from here have used them. |

They look good, but I may be biased....

Thought I'd resurrect an old post rather than start another. I ended up just using some touch up paint on the wheels but am now looking to get them done properly. But the spokes and the actual rim seem to be slightly different finishes? The spokes look to be a painted slightly metallic finish, whereas the rim looks like the metal was polished with a translucent paint finish? Is this effect possible just using powder coating? Also does any have, or could take, some photos of some good condition gold/amber XB wheels? Thanks. |

Triple s did my wheels this winter and whilst they aren't cheap, the wheels were absolutely perfect. Also it's cash or cheque only they don't do electronic transactions Forgot to mention the wheels were gloss white not metallic amber

Did my wheels too, said they chemically strip them , no blasting. I do have a bare metal pair of tuber wheels which look good with the rims polished. |

Thanks, does anyone know what the XB wheels are made of? I've seen a company that says they can anodise wheels, but only if they're made out of a certain metal. |
