Ok Tried Mitch's wiring mod, by way of Hartbeats post. Switched the pins in the connector. Worked for a couple of minutes then blew the accessory fuse.

I would like to try Mitch's other suggestion of running a fresh feed and switching it with a relay. However in the mean time I changed the lamps as suggested by CJ. When I got to Halfords they had some H7 lamps that they claimed had a 90% increase in light output for the same current (wattage). So I gave them a go. Really pleased with the result.

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_710165_langId_-1_categoryId_165582

Still on a 2 for 1 offer so a £24 not a bad upgrade.

Thanks for all the suggestions. :yup:

Devenbob (or anyone else)

Given that:
1) I spend 90+% of my time on dipped beam only, and
2)I'm a skinflint,

is there any real need to change both bulbs, or could I just change the dipped beam one?

Cheers,

Dave
