Any dealer should be able to get one from Harley-Davidson UK for you if the machine was originally built for the European market. Harley-Davidson used to issue these for free but once they virtually needed a full time member of staff to deal with it because of the number of bikes being exported they started to make a charge.

We charge £120 and can take care of it for anyone who e-mails Tracey, my administrator, on admin@blackbear.co.uk. Let her know the Vin Number and the full name and address of the end user. You can call her with payment details on 01638 664455.

Steve

Steve does that mean you can get one for me please?

Steve you may recall me asking if that COC that you provided was evidence enough for registration as it stated the vehicle needed no further approvals for driving on the left and imperial speedo units? Fact is the COC is not evidence of month and year of manufacture as I found out today when I went to ask my local DVLA office what they needed. The upshot of all this fuckability factor is the local offices don't know as Swansea have the final decision.

Why does the COC NOT! include the date of manufacture of that particular chassis number...they did in 2002!

Take note anybody else please who is importing cos its a real fiasco :headbang:

I've said it so many times I can't remember. Unless it's something YOU REALLY WANT TO KEEP - It's not worth it. Sell and buy something else after the move. ESPECIALLY if you are NOT fluent in the languages involved.

Certainly in Spain - and apparently the same applies elsewhere too. I recall going though some hassle in Germany, though the process was simpler and (being Germany) pretty clearly defined - they gave a check list at the TüV.

I have done a total of four cross border upheavals. And I made damn sure somebody else paid for this stuff.

If you really want to drive them wild. Buy something in country "A" - take it to "B" and then bring it back to "A". Highly entertaining it was.

What a load of bollocks from the official Spanish harley dealers that they are different bikes and they can't service them unless they buy different sets of tools ........apart from any emission type components i'm sure HD don't fit anything that they don't need to.

The EU is like Health and safety ..............tis a case of people trying to justify their existance because they don't have a real job ........everything going ok ....lets make new rules and laws to make it look like we're importent ............everything running smoothly and safe .... H&S have to make up some new supposed improvement because if they admit everything is good then they admit they are no longer needed

Oh god - you believe El Pais?.

This is NOT a new thing. HD was the driving force behind this. EU or ES - I'm not sure. HD Spain is a fairly new organisation - I know as I applied, and was interviewed, for the job of HOG rep. Yes me - because they were going to bring in Buells as well.

The previous importer was frankly a bit of a tosser (not a Buell) - so Grey imports have been a way of life for decades. And the Spanish have an inexorable need to beat the system and buy "grey".

My old Softail was a US import. It was imported as such. Made getting insurance a PITA - but eventually they decided to make a mistake - and underrate it. The only Mot I did with it - it was photo'd with all the non EU parts and given an OK for EU road use by the ITV engineer. This is a public document - to be contested at peril.

There was an attempt earlier this year to force TYPE APPROVAL - this would have killed ALL accessories etc. It was defeated - My informant tells me that HD were behind the lobbying.

I'm not sure whether HD is a member of ANESDOR - an organisation that represents most marques. AND the after market. Was founded by the directors of BMW and Aprilla many many years ago.The last news I had was that they HD had declined. So they resort to this. Tossers.

The GC on the whole can't be arsed ime. They've better things to do. If folk have been stopped - it's because they were targeted for something else.

It'll just reduce HD sales. Stuff'em (Sorry Steve - but twats are twats)

Without one it's hell !! If I could sell the Uly I wouldn't take it!! Where in Portugal will you be?I will be in Lagos.
