Norrie, I took the pillion foot rests off because although they look like they'll give protection, they're bolted to a hand made aluminium subframe and I reckon that'll give way before the pillion framework does.

Cost of subframe far exceeds the cost of rear plastics

Yeah I was going to remove them as I usually do but thought that they would offer some protection but never thought about that.
As I said it did touch the rear footrest but only just.

Shit Norrie, sorry to read this. Some of these short stroking V's and light cranks can suffer the v-twin stall. Thats why I am reluctant to let Jayne on the Falco in traffic as she is not to familiar with this syndrome!

Good luck to you Norrie :)

Nate.

Norrie, that's really crap.

I do have the 2010 parts catalogue should you need any more part numbers.

Never had a problem with my bike stalling - if anything it goes the other way - the revs rise if it thinks it's going to stall - which can be just as bad.

It was also I who posted the link for the aluminium engine pucks that somebody in the States sells - but I can't find it now ( damn the red wine ! ).

Found it !

Spondon 440 has looked at this and reckons he could make them for a fraction of that price

I dont think those are going to save your casings in the event of a spill - maybe just a drive way miss hap. either some sort of r & d bar at the front of the bike or some proper carbon bits i think is the way to go.

Iam sorry to read about your bad news norrie - you've got a bloody white cr you need to look after it, so I can buy it off you one day lOl

Re stalliing on slow turns: BMW had a very similar problem with it's 2008/2009 F800. Turned out to be related to idle speed. Idle speed is raised with clutch disengaged (clutch switch triggered) to prevent engine from stalling when pulling in. In other situations idle was too low (idle air valve closed too far) in some circumstances, so the engine simply went off, with the same results as yours. BMW fixed that with a new flash.

I have a faint memory we discussed rising idle speed with clutch pulled here too, but I'm not sure. It might be a similar problem, I would try to claim.

Bad news...

On the bright side - it wasn't a full dresser Harley. Guys at the HD dealer told me they've had folk come in, buy a £18,000 bike and drop it on the turn out of the carpark.
Write off.

Just seen this Norrie. Sorry to hear it. I didn''t notice much damage on Academy bikes dropped on experience days tho no doubt you''ll be looking much more closely at your own.
I've been out thelast couple of days and haven't noticed any stalling tendencies but frigging IC seems to be misting up a bit. That''s in cold but dry weather. Quite a bit of heat comes up in front of tank, I guess causing any moisture to condense inside IC. Haven''t ridden in the rain so wondering what it''ll be like then. I thought 2010 clusters were sorted in this respect.

Tony, no they haven't fixed the IC condensation issue, both my ICs mist up, one's a 2008, the other a 2010.

As to the crash protection issue, there are also these that somebody in the States is making. You really need to look closely at the pics to see them !

Yeah that's the ones I was thinking of.
Maz I did think to myself Spondon could knock these up easily plus he's got an 1125 to take the measurements from.
The frame sliders look like an option as well.
I spoke to the shop today and are going to have a look and see if they can sort me out as it's going in for it's first service next week.
My IC also mists up which is anoying.
I'm going out again tomorrow so will see if it stalls again.

I do really like the bike and it's been running really well so I hope there's not going to be an issue with it.

There have been a few in the US that have done exactly this.

Sorry to hear about you dropping the bike.

My mate left his XB12XT on tick over on the side stand on his drive.......which just so happens to slop downwards. Yes it fell off the side stand whilst he wasn't looking, he'd not checked that the side stand doesn't lock like his old Sporty did.
