My original S1 battery is 11 years old and still going strong.

I didn't realise we were talking Helicon here until Maz mentioned it. The '08 models had very marginal charging from their weedy alternator (uprated on later models) and the IC aparently can drain batterys overnight. My '08 was fine one day and refused to anything the next with 4v in the battery. I was worried that this level of discharge over such a short period may have trashed the battery, so the Dealer swapped it under warranty 8-) :yup: . Later reflashes apparently got rid of this parasitic draw by the IC on the battery. Do your lights flicker at tickover, because the charge doesn't balance out until about 3.5k revs? (the motor is unhappy at being ridden at those revs anyway)

Like Maz said before, ask Riders about which flash your ECU has.

Not sure of the dates but some of those early CRs had cam chain guides chewed by the chain and plastic bits could block oil screen - you can imagine the rest
There was a half hearted recall, the fix was to fit a weaker tensioner spring
Check that your bike has been sorted if it was built during the relevant dates.

Hmmm... Very wise words; thanks Chaps. (& very cheeky words; thanks Ladies!) Just had a squint at the manual & it mentions the IC ODIS(!) but doesn't say anything about displaying the ECM version. I think I'll have to have a play too... (NowNow Jill).

I have noticed that the IC back-light flickers at tickover, & took this as indication of a low charge. Sorry for not mentioning this before... :oooops:

I suspect you're correct, & the ECM needs a re-flash. Time to get in touch with Riders.

I note that the factory manual says "If the motorcycle will not be operated for several months, such as during the winter season..." I should be so lucky!!! ;-)

A post on BadWeather mentions battery draining as a common fault & apparantly... "Dealer reflashed the ECM and the bike runs better and battery drain problem seems resolved."

The thread also mentions the leaky rear light cluster which I've encountered (blew a bulb) but I haven't resolved this one. Have ridden in heavy rain since & bulb is Ok.

That Thread... http://badweatherbikers.com/buell/messa ... 1257791500

LED bulb. My old Guzzi blew its rear right bulb almost weekly - to the extent I only fitted a bulb to get through the MOT. Got LED's in and no hassles.
