Cheers Chris. Perhaps these lamps and Mitch's wiring mod will do the trick. :D

Maz told me that the relay is on its limit anyway so I used the sidelight wire to keep an accessory relay on. The relay I used is available from most auto stores and fitted in behind the screen on my xb with a fused feed from the battery.

might have a wander down for those. I get trade discount at Halford too, so they should only cost me a fiver or so.

I used the MotoVison lamps for 2 years and they are good. Then I did the double lamp mod IE - Dip stays on with the main beam and also fitted H3 E4 (so legal) projector spots.

I then changed all the lamps for PIAA Xtreme White Plus 4000K (about £40 a pair) and with all of them on it is very, very good. The output of each lamp is twice that of the normal 55w and legal.

The main problem is that that the design of the headlight, on the XB12X anyway, is crap. High spec lamps help a lot and the double headlight mod is a must whichever way you do it. In 25 years of motoring with cars and bikes I have never found high beam that useful. After all think on how long you keep it on at any one time. I find a wide, white, bright dip beam with a long cast to be the most use.

Hartbeat..yep good thread and mod :yup: ...but a question that gets asked on there but not answered is can the wiring and relay handle it :?:

I've totalled up all bulbs that could take current at one time and come up with approx 13.5a current draw...the lighting fuse on my XB12X my07 is 15a, leaving 2a spare for mishaps/bad earths ect....but what is the headlamp relay rated at ??...both headlights at once take just over 9a....if i could find the rating and it was say 15a i'd be happy to do the conversion as per the XB forum.

Does anyone know :?:

Further to the above...i cant even see a headlight relay mentioned in any wiring diagram, and nor can i find one on my bike

ok tried to do this mod - but before I did. I found an easy alternative you can do with out any mods - just keep the light switch in the middle of the relay its just about finding the sweet spot 8-)

HID. NO doubt at all in my mind since I fitted them.

But here's the thing. Most HID kits are 6000K - these seem not to work with ANY LENS with a pattern.

Most OEM bulbs are 5000K

ime you need at most 4300K bulbs if the lens is patterned - 5000K if the lens is clear and the reflector is patterned. 6000K for those spherical lenses - and above 6000K to look "flash". The higher the K number the less light there is.

I have 5000K in the Buell and HD headlight (because I could not get any 4300 at the time), 4300K in the HD spots.

Twin H4 electromagnet dipping H4-HID's - Mmmmmmmm.

I went down the route of the wiring mod in the switch, before that I swapped the side light and dip wires but realised that if I ever need to park up with the lamps on the park position the battery will be drained in no time as it will have the dip beam on.

Next step is upgrade the bulbs I think, although fitting a proper HID dip with balast sound nice, the fact is it will be illegal and the design of a proper HID light is different to a halogen so you won't get the best output all be it that it may still be better than a halogen and will draw less current.

I like the idea of twin dip main so some same size H4's with uprated bulbs would be ideal, better start shopping.
