You'd think they could take it out of this, wouldn't you....

According to the Taxpayers' Alliance, EU membership costs every Briton £2,000 per year, compared with the £220 quoted by the EU.

The UK-based lobby group says that, annually, the total cost of British membership of the 27-member club is £118 billion.

This contrasts sharply with Commission statistics which show that in 2007, the most recent year for which figures are available, Britain's net contribution to the EU totalled some £3.8 billion.

The Taxpayers' Alliance bases its figures on what it considers the "real, underestimated and hidden" costs of EU membership.

These include Britain's direct contributions to the EU, the cost to UK business of complying with and administering EU regulations, EU administration costs and also higher food prices, said to result from implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy and Common Fisheries Policy.

The claims are made in a new Taxpayers' Alliance booklet, entitled "The Great European Rip-Off."

Any dealer should be able to get one from Harley-Davidson UK for you if the machine was originally built for the European market. Harley-Davidson used to issue these for free but once they virtually needed a full time member of staff to deal with it because of the number of bikes being exported they started to make a charge.

We charge £120 and can take care of it for anyone who e-mails Tracey, my administrator, on admin@blackbear.co.uk. Let her know the Vin Number and the full name and address of the end user. You can call her with payment details on 01638 664455.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the replies!
I have allready made contact with H-D uk, and they told me to request it to any H-D dealer. From there it will be up to the dealer the amount of money to charge for the c.o.c.
On this mather there are really no rules, some importers are giving them for free, and others are charging . Anyway, i think i will follow Ursus advice and pay 120 for it.
Thanks everyone!

Ok, not a Buell, but I got one for a BMW in December that I was going to export to Belgium (buyer backed out), Cost nowt from BMW HQ, Berkshire,
Doesn't help I know, but just shows the difference in attitude to these things, All I did was call them, and three days later it arrived by post, no problem.

I have just been through this whole process, got mine from Warrs HD in SE London at £180 odd so £120 is cheap IMHO, and the Spanish were concerned at first that it wasn't in Spanish! My fixer argued the toss for me, and it is VIN specific, that is what you are paying for. It had my VIN number on approved and says what tyres were fitted as standard etc. The difference was my X1 was never officially imported to Spain, only Germany and UK and a couple of other European countries.

Warning: make sure the silencer is within 4dB of the limit on the sticker on the frame, make sure all lights have an 'e' mark on them, and the headlight point the right way. They do question tail tidy stuff, but it won't fail the SVA test, at least in Spain it didn't, not sure for Portugal but probably the same.

Check out http://www.ibexinsure.com for insurance, they cover UK plated stuff, in Gibraltar, Spain (and its islands) and Portugal. I use them and they are cheap and good service. They also give 60 days EU cover outside these territories! (all the brokers use them for expats)

I need one of these also....has anybody got the HD contact address in Oxford cos I think that is who we have to approach initially.

In response to the topic in general I think I paid about 90 quid for a Honda coming into UK from Dubai in 2002 and as I recall that certificate had to come from Japan.

Years ago prior to SVA testing for bikes a COC was neccessary to prove year of manufacture for registration purposes and I assume it still is for that reason but now I understand that bikes also need the SVA test. No doubt I will discover this wonderful sequence of events soon?

Taking a bike into Portugal cannot surely be as bad as bringing one to UK. Good luck with that :eat:

You can approach ANY HD dealer for this. Take up the offer from Ursus.
