Steve, thanks for your interest. This will probably be the last in our occasional series of 'Buell Challenges' so we thought we'd do one in the UK to give others a better chance of taking part.

The last one was the Buell Nordkapp Challenge in 2015: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=19533&hilit=nordkapp+challenge

We will post full details of the 2018 event on here by Sunday 7th January latest.

Peeps have been asking which nine iconic bridges form part of the 2018 Buell Challenge, so here’s the list.

Jane and I will start at the Humber Bridge and finish at Tower Bridge, travelling around the UK in an anticlockwise direction. Entrants can choose their own most convenient start and finish points.

Humber Bridge: http://www.humberbridge.co.uk/
Tyne Bridge: https://co-curate.ncl.ac.uk/tyne-bridge/
Forth (Rail) Bridge: https://www.theforthbridges.org/forth-b ... tage-site/

Registration is now open for this event, please email the completed form to buellchallenge@gmail.com or alternatively send all the information requested via a PM.

We will bring some registration forms to Cabin Fever on Saturday: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=22807

At this stage we just need to get a feel for the numbers interested, completing the form doesn't commit you to anything. The T-shirts to commemorate the event will cost £15, are optional and will only be available to entrants.

Don't forget it's the Queensferry Bridge now :D

Assuming I'm here, I'm up for the Scottish leg(s) :yup:

Clive, thanks for your interest.

It's the Forth Bridge, not the new Queensferry Bridge. The idea behind the 2018 Buell Challenge is to take a photograph of your motorcycle with each of the nine iconic bridges on the list. Like this....

You'll not be going over the Forth Road Bridge, it's closed to all but buses and L rider/drivers.

That photo must have been taken a while ago

You'll get a photo no problems, of all three bridges if required.

Clive, our intended route won't involve crossing the Forth but I now understand what you meant about the new Queensferry Bridge, thanks. Heading north we'll use the M9 west from Edinburgh to Stirling, then the A84/A85/A82/A87 to the Skye Bridge. Returning south we'll use the A87/A82 to Glasgow.

I'll post full details when we've finished all the route planning and booked the overnight accommodation stops.

Have you slipped in a tenth bridge, Chris? Of course you'll know that Spean Bridge was named after the Iron Bridge which is now no more than a couple of pillars and has been replaced by another of Telford's creations lOl Don't you love Wikipedia?

Of course this does mean that the wee marine will have to take two days to do the Scottish leg with an overnight stop at his spiritual home. :yup:

I was thinking about starting at the Clifton Suspension Bridge with a leisurely breakfast with Pash then going clockwise from there. Maybe it's time for a rethink, an early start there then a real heavy mileage day to Spean Bridge on Friday night  "This land was their training ground :worthy: " See you there, Royal :4roz:

Of course, you do know you won't be eligible for a T-Shirt unless you complete the full challenge :ner:

Steve

No, purely coincidental, but appropriate given the nature of the event. We've stopped at the Spean Bridge Hotel on previous trips and we loved the village and surrounding area. This hotel also contains the Commando Museum: http://commando.speanbridgehotel.co.uk/
