UKBEG members may be interested in this trip we're putting together to the D-Day 70th Anniversary in Normandy.

Dates: Monday 2nd to Monday 9th June 2014.

We'll be based on the coast and have booked 7 nights at an apartment (Apartment Les Caravelles) in Houlgate, which is within easy riding distance of all the main D-Day sites. Calais to Houlgate is approx. 200 miles and Le Havre is just 45 miles away.

In addition to the main 70th Anniversary events we'll be exploring the beautiful Normandy countryside.

Houlgate location: here

Our itinerary:
Sunday 1st June - Home to Travelodge Ashford, Kent.
Monday 2nd June AM - Eurotunnel: Folkestone to Calais (07.50 hrs)
Monday 2nd June to Monday 9th June, 7 nights in Houlgate.
Monday 9th June PM - Eurotunnel: Calais to Folkestone (18.20 hrs)
Monday 9th June - Travelodge Ashford, Kent.
Tuesday 10th June - Arrive home.

Unsurprisingly a lot of the accommodation in the main D-Day area is already fully booked for the 70th Anniversary but there's still a few places available if you widen your search.

At the time of writing the accommodation available in the Houlgate area can be found: here

Houlgate camping: here

Hi CJ,JJ,

I have just a chat with my brother Gary and he is well up for it. We would like to combine with the Lauwe weekend. All the hotels and apartment on your link say....'only one left' hermmm.

I know you have no control over the date for Lauwe, but it is mostly the first week of June (B day).

We will see :sun: :sun:

"Only one left" is modern parlance for "one left at this price, then it rises". Bucket selling.

I'd recommend this, we did the CJ D-Day trip a few years ago, sadly without CJ because of his eye infection, but nevertheless enjoyed the trip enormously. Thoroughly recommend a visit to Arromanches.

If you have never visited the Normandy landing beaches, it is truly a humbling experience. The museum at Arromanches is particularly worth a visit. :yup:

Karen has sent a reply and they are going to see what they can arrange and if possible will use that date 8-) ........ some of the guys are away on holiday at the moment so they will obviously need to make sure that it is ok for their small group of helpers.

OK folks ............ had a long chat with our friends at Twin Power last night and at the present time there is a possibility that there might not be a B-day in 2014 ....... I've assured them that Not being able to have the date we requested would not deter people from going . They may give it a miss and have a special event the following year for their 10th B-day ( I've just sent Karen a message saying you can't have a tenth unless there's been a ninth lOl )
Remember this is just a group of 4 friends that organise this so it is a lot of work for them and Kurt would love to hear suggestions of what people would like as far as food / drink / ride outs /entertainment etc .
Anybody that has been will know what a great atmosphere it is and the hospitality is already 110%
So anybody that wants to pass on any suggestions through me or direct to Kurt if you are already in contact with him please feel free ;)
