Hiya, my name is Colin I have just bought a XB9R manufactured in 2002 and registered in 2003
It’s got 2010 miles on the spedo and has the original front tyre, no service history, but looking at the bike The back tyre has just been changed for a bridge bt 20.

I have just got back in to biking so may do some kind of course, have you any ideas? As I have only rode it down my path, “and that was scary” lol.

Apart from a 3’8x2.1/2” inch rear exhaust bolt that I found missing its like new.

Now question is the clutch lever fulcrum bolt has been cocked with a 6 mm bolt which must be replaced my guess it’s a Harley part? You got a part number?

Got the parts manual and the 2003 maintenance manual on line, which is a great help
As ive printed them on card at work and have them is a lever binder. Lol.

Now for something about myself.
First was a Raleigh runabout, with cable brakes front and rear, no sus, tank at
back. Second was a c90 Honda which I used to push 2 miles to the beach using my tide book I would Ride this from Sercombe ferry to Leasowe sand hills and push it back 4 miles, age 15.

Then I got a Yamaha FS1E at the tender age of 16, which I fell of on numerous occasions, lol.
Passed my test on my m8’ts CB 100, when I was 17, but had already acquired a GT380 Suzuki Kept that for a year and whilst still owning it bought a US spec T140V in brown that had a front Ender, the bike had done 7,000 miles but had a new engine at 2,000 due to an oil pump failure!

Gutted as the insurance them days was 500 quid tpff, so I part exed and got a brand new LC350
Which was only 115 quid tpff , 1980
Kept that got engaged and and got a Mini, lol
Got un engaged and got a Honda 400-4 which I loved as it did 40 to the gallon, LC350 25 TTGO.
Then had other. cars and a XT250 which got stolen, Bastards, as I had no insurance. 1985
Had a CR250R that was the last to have a front tls drum brake,that was fun.

Hi Colin, you asked about a training course, the police do run a refresher course that involves a couple of hours in a classroom then a few rides. I am not sure on cost but I think it is about £60.00.

It is aimed at people in your position but is always over subscribed. I wouldn't be surprised if you had to wait until mid summer before being offered a place.

You can contact your local riding school, but you will be paying a lot for very little when compared to an advanced course such as IAM.

The most logical step that I would suggest is to find someone who lives in your neck of the woods and has experience in all manner of vehicle tuition who just may be up for giving you back your confidence in the saddle.

...and welcome to the Nuthouse....nice bike from what i could see (pic was a little on the small side so had to fit prescription screen to laptop)..

Yes a little confidence goes a long way....the police do the 'Bikesafe' course and i've had a few friends who have taken the course, it is a one day event and is usually quite reasonable and covers all aspects of riding whereas the IAM course is much more detailed. Hope you get sorted out.

Most bike training outfits do a Back to Biking one-day course - well worth the investment.

as suggested above - the old bill's BikeSafe course is usually worthwhile especially if you havent ridden for a fair time.

try not to pick up a speeding ticket while attending the course ( me and the person supervising my ride )
