Right then: hello to you all my fellow enthusiasts!
I've owned several Buells over the years: three X1's, an S1 and a XB9.
I started with the S1 wich was rather old and tatty but with a US spec rearpulley, 42 Mikuni HSR and forcewinder it was plenty quick and since I rode it with just the headers in place it sounded like a WW2 bomber!
After that came my first X1: almost new and completely stock.
I fuckin' hated it! After the S1 it felt soggy and slow but it has to be said, comfy.
So out with that one and in with an X1 with full US spec pulleykit, Mikuni HSR42, K&N filter, 1280 cc Millenium kit, Pro series full exhaust and Buell race ignition.
Fast but the bike itself wasn't much to look at.
Went ahead and bought a rather nice looking XB9 with black Renthal bars.
Like it in a way but it always felt a little small and gutless.
So out with that and in with yet another X1: this time a low mileage Millenium edition in near concourse condition.
Vance and Hines exhaust, remap, full US spec pulleykit and a few other bits and bobs.
Too nice to mod and so I sold it.
Now I've bought myself a half finished project with a lot of nice new parts and I intend to rebuild it completely to my spec and turn it into something of a hybrid between a streetfighter/supermoto.
Here's what I bought:
1998 X1 with:
one piece tankcover freshly painted gloss black
S2 fairing freshly painted gloss black
backend freshly painted gloss black
black WP raceforks with black chrome inserts
LSL alloy bars
LSL alloy footpegs
LSL alloy front pulleycover
Manitoo aircleaner with K&N filter
NEW Mikuni HSR42
NEW AST adjustable rearshock
Millenium edition ceramic coated headers
carbon front mudguard
carbon undertray/bellypan
carbon dashsurround
Berringer brakepump
Berringer hydraulic clutch pump
EBC dual front discs
PM calipers
Special multispoke wheels (no idea what they are)
And the best bit of all:
Rebuild engine with counterbalanced cranck, new pistons and rings, XB-cillinders, new valves, new valveguides, new oilpumpdrivegear and all of it finished in black cracklecoating!
I am planning on doing a full restothread with pics on it so...enjoy!
