My name is Randy Smith and I live in Southern Illinois, USA. I currently ride a 2008 XB12Ss and I am building a new Land Speed Racing bike powered by a Buell XB9 motor. I call it my XB7.5 since I have reduced the displacement to 748cc to race in the 750cc class. I currently hold the records in the class APS/PG 750cc set with my BMW R75 motor and I intend to better those records with my new Buell powered bike...wish me luck ![]() I have been building custom bikes and restoring old BMWs for many years; I never met a motorcycle I didn't like. Working with the XB9 motor is my first dip into the EFI pool. I have always been a carburetor guy, but this fuel injection stuff is easy to like. The new motor started easier than ever and the EcmSpy program makes adjustments much easier than carrying around a box of jets and carb bits. I will be running the new bike unfaired to get it sorted out... and then I will add a full fairing to run in the partially streamlined class... The bike is being built as a tribute to my grandfather and his B24 crew that were all lost off the coast of Italy on May12, 1944. The bikes number is the same number as the Missing Air Crew Report (MACR 4836) that details their loss. You can see the entire build process on my website in the "Rublemaker" photo gallery at http://www.frsengineering.com I hope to hang around here and learn as much as I can from what looks like an active Buell rider forum. Best regards, Rchop |

This bike will only be 750cc while I go after the 750cc records, naturally aspirated and turbo charged. After that I will enlarge it to run in the 1000cc classes. |

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. norrie wrote: Welcome. I hope you've built the engine strong? The engine has been built strong, hopefully! The crankshaft has been aligned, tig welded and balanced. New crankshaft bearings and races have been installed. High compression, forged aluminum pistons have been custom made with total seal rings. Heads have been CNC ported with larger vavles and stronger springs installed. S&S roller rockers finish off the head work that was done by NRHS Performance. A new stainless steel 2 into 1 megaphone has been fabricated and I have set up data logging for RPM, A/F ratio and Throttle Position (TPS). I should have all the info for accurate fuel map adjustments. I hope to turn the engine up to 8000 rpms. |
