Post subject:  Get my new Buiell 1st March!!!!

Whilst I am sadenned by the demise of Buell I am delighted that I have managed to afford one! I pick up my 10 plate Ulysses XT on 1st Marh - can't wait.

I do hope Harley bring them back in due course.

Any tips/hints/simple mods that are worthwhile for a new Uly owner??

To start with, consider your owner's manual as your bible (no, not a religion thread again!!!!!!!! :o :o :o ). If you don't yet have one, you can register as an owner with your VIN number on the Buell US web site, and view the manual for your year and model. Follow it carefully as to running in period. Do not trust that all has been set up properly for you at the dealer (with a couple of notable exceptions). The battery may not be fully charged (even/especially when new); the fluids may not be to the correct level; odd bits may be loose, or ready to come loose. Read the book carefully: such things as startup procedure are simple to follow, but also important to do so. For example, throttle on at start-up leaves you much more likely to foul your plugs. Simple to avoid, if you follow the book.
Get the bike run in properly, then you will have a much better feel for the bike, and what you want/what you need to do to it. Free Spirits belt tensioner would be #1, if you care to keep the bike for the long term.
Enjoy!

Bring it for a 10 minute ride then come back, turn off and park it on the side stand, leave for a minute and then check the engine oil level..........mine needed oil !!!

Check the tyre pressures.

Set the suspension for your riding weight

Maybe think about a FS tensioner, a breather mod and an output shaft oiling nipple !

Look at the Palmer UK website for add on bits.

My 2c

Thanks Eric:
Any tips on how to setup the suspension? I've never been much good with all those adjusters ;-)

What is an FS tensioner? Breather mod and output shaft oiling nipple mods are somewhere on this site??

Thanks again

Hi RevM :yup:

Here's a link to the online version of the owners manual, so you can read it before you get the bike

Get both wheel spindles out and grease them with Coppaslip. (The genuine stuff, not the cheap crap that dries out and turns to powder)

Page 81 in the owners manual has a table with settings for your riding weight incl all gear etc.

A few pages before and after that explain how to make the adjustments.

FS stand for Free Spirits a company that makes an aftermarket tensioner.

Putting my new 1125cr on the road 1st of march as well :yup: it's been sat in the house since the middle of December but didn't bother registering it due to all the crap weather.
Upshot is I'm now going to have a 10 registration rather than the 09 plate it came with :yup:
