Hello all..

I've just bought a XB12X with luggage and sat nav on a 59 plate with 2k miles on her.. :D

It was pretty much an impulse buy, so is there anything I need to get the dealer to check before I take delivery?

Thanks,

Check your partner still loves you and the ice on the roads.
And welcome you'll get a sensible answer eventually by the owners who love their Ulys.

Welcome, I've recently got a 2008 model XB12XT with about 600km on it.

Nothing much to check I dont think....try and blag a oil and filter change if you can..

May look at doing some mods yourself in the future
- fs tensioner (spring tensioner easier on the belt and bearings)
- breather mod (stop putting air/gas from crankcase into air filter/inlet)
- oiler for gearbox input shaft

Other than that I'd ride the bike for a bit then change the oil and filter just to be sure - changing oil is simpler and good for the bike !

Thanks for the tips Eric..
I'm planning to take the bike over to Germany in May with a small group of freinds and my main concern is getting punctures..
How easy is it to get the rear wheel off?

Why take the wheel out ...if you get a puncture use one of the many excellent repair kits that use plugs to repair in situ ;)

Have used them in the past and found them to be a temp repair at best.. Still very useful at getting you somewhere to effect a 'proper' repair or tyre replacement. My concern is that I've heard that you can damage the belt if the wheel is not removed correctly.

On a 12X you'll also have to remove the footpeg bracket to get the tensioner out.

I add Ultraseal to my tyres. It has proved its worth & got me home on a couple of occassions

I'd do a repair with the wheel on and fix it when I got home. Agree its only a temp repair but many people have repaired tyres this way then rode them for the rest of the tyre's life (5k on different bikes) - the only "proper" repair is a mushroom plug but you need to take off the tyre to do it !!

Other than that you need a paddock stand, tools, torque wrench etc to do the job right.

One thing the XT has that is nice now is heated grips....worth it if you ride year round.

Eric.
