Have an Aprilia twin, and what i hear these machines are as good.

Waiting to take delivery, but no rush, as not going to register it until Jan.

Looking forward to a happy biking 2010 8-)

You're most welcome - may we ask which part of Ireland?

It's quite remarkable just how many new enthusiasts the factory closure has produced

Thanks to all for your comments & welcome

I live in Co Cavan (southern) and work in Dublin :)

It amazing alright the amount of new owners, but wth the prices, and parts being available for 10 years, you can`t really go wrong.

The 1125R has the rotex engine, who are a proven engine supplier, so no worries :)

Don`t expect to get the bike until Dec, so it would be mad to register it as an 09.... roll on 2010......

Going to take a spin over to Doncaster in the new year for its first service.... any excuse

Between the RSV and the Buell, it's good to be different :D :D

I admire your optimism with Rotax motors but they've also built some horrors in their time - eg the 503 and the 447 series motors. These were so flawed in their design that even the factory suggested that the big ends were checked every 10 hrs  Everyone who flew an aircraft fitted with one of these motors either bought the factory tool or built their own tool for checking (not very well imho) play in the rod. This consisted of a DTI with a hollow stem that screwed into the plug hole, a syringe was then fitted to a pipe concentric with the DTI stem, and the air was suddenly drawn out of the space above the piston. Any movement on the clock indicated bearing failure. Rotax did little to improve this shortcoming and went ahead and designed a completely new flat four motor (which was reliable).
Bear in mind, the Helicon motor wasn't designed by a dedicated engine builder, it was designed by Buell and only developed enough for reliable operation in its 2010 year model.

I'm glad to see that you've posted that, Adam, as I must admit to a big heap of concern at all these new-to-Buellers with their buckets brimming with optimism, knowing the pain that you went through with a "built by Rotax so it must be good" motor.

Why do you have such optimism on the 2010 model, though? Has anyone actually seen one or had one running? I really hope that these "bargain" Buells don't turn out to be yet more unreliable, fragile money-pits unsupported by a dead factory (with the exception of 2 or 3 dealers and independents around the country).

The 2010 motor uses different crankcase castings to the previous models (+home owners can find out how much oil there really is in the motor, which is useful), different injector layout and camchain guides that don't shed plastic and potentially block up oil ways ;) - and then there's the much improved cycle parts, esp wheels that enable the tyre to outlast a wheel bearing

.......in theory but it wouldn't be the 1st time an 'improvement' turned out to be worse than the design it replaced

Good points all well made, I suspect you'll be able to buy one of these 2010 Helicon bikes in about 18 months time for about £2.5k. They won't be looking quite such a bargain and there won't be so many new enthusiasts around then, I fear.

Good luck to anyone taking the plunge and parting with their hard earned wonga, but history isn't really on their side I'm afraid.

Before Buell went tits up, I'd considered part exing my '08 1125 for a 2010, but all I was offered was £3.5k. It's worth much more than that to me, so I kept it.....................................and bought a Ducati

Interesting.........do you think that the XB12s will hold their values any better? It will be interesting to see how the values go in the next 2 or 3 years, they may hold their own.....you never know.
I intend to keep mine, when it arrives, for the long haul.....it will probably be the last bike I ever buy.

Well, it's only an opinion........ and I'm not known for being a glass half full person. But seeing as you asked- Look back in history to see what happens. We're talking about a factory closing that the vast majority of the motorcycling public couldn't give a stuff about even when they were alive and kicking. A year or so down the line you'll struggle to find anyone remembering what the factory was away from places like this. Then, think about what was without a doubt "the best thought of Buell, the S1". Plain S1's cost £8995 and S1W's were £9995 back in 1998. The last few months has seen a fairly remarkable upturn in the values of some of those from their lows but they can still generally be bought for about 40% or so of their new value. In comparison to vanilla XB12's, the S1's were pretty special bikes, so it would be easy to draw the conclusion that residuals will be poor for the later bikes. There'll be a few folk who will want them, there always is, but like M2's, S3's the right price to attract those punters will likely be low I guess. Like I say, only an opinion, but you did ask.

Incidentally, I own a 91 RS1200-5 (new value in the UK in 1991 for those was almost £14k!) and a 97 "razor back" M2. Both are pretty worthless today. Many of them have been turned into POS "choppers" over the years since they were cheaper to buy and cut up than a Harley.

On the Rotax issue, I put many trouble free hours in my two Rotax engined Microlights but they were the 2 strokes. Had some pals flying with the Rotax 4 stroke engines but it was shortly before i gave the sport up.

I too have been disappointed to read of the engine issues with the 1125, fingers crossed the 2010 model is better.
