Hi to all fellow Buell riders

Like so many I see on this forum I have been persuaded by the recent drop in prices. I have had my 1125r from Bristol for 1 week now and absolutely love it (400 miles already). I attended a recent Buell Performance day at Castle Combe (I was interested in the Lightening) but was blown away by the 1125r :o

Who says they're ugly? My VFR never attracted so much positive attention! Either my mates are being kind to me ("poor old fool, had to buy a H-D at some stage") or they are genuinly impressed, both by the bike and the fact that I have broken from the Jap mold.

My first question to you knowledgeable folk... has anyone fitted a Garmin Zumo to the 1125r? There doesn't seem to be much room around bars and in the fairing. The cradle needs to be attached to something and power supplied. Mates and I are of around Europe early 2010 and I want to install GPS early.

I look forward to getting stuck into the forum and contributing (when I know what I'm taliking about). Also looking forward to meeting up with any other Buell riders in Bristol area (mid week) and Weymouth (weekends).

Welcome Cavok, from one 1125R owner to another.

As to fitting a Zumo, I made a mount up that fits through the hollow steering stem, works a treat !

If this makes sense - I got a piece of 6 mm theaded bar and cut to the required length - it has a bolt and washers on the bottom and feeds up through the steering stem and out though the chromed stem nut - put some rubber tubing round the rod to protect the steering stem nut - then I got a large blanking nut ( 28 mm if I remember ) from a plumbers merchant and drilled a hole through the top in the middle so that the threaded rod fits through it - this will fit over the top of the steering stem nut and protect it ( I also put some rubber between the "cap" and the stem nut to protect it and the top yoke ) then I used a piece of scrap steel to make an arm - this had a hole drilled in it at one end so that the threaded bar passes through it and at the other end I fitted a round 1 inch furniture knob that would act as ram mount ball for the part provided with the zumo. Lastly I fitted a nut on the top end of the threaded rod and snugged it all down ( but not too tightly as I didn't want to damage anything).

a very bad drawing here !

Were you there in the morning? I did this one with Kev (onanist) and Tony (Deepsix) we also recruited a couple of people to the forum!
You would have recognised Kev, he had grass stains on his leathers! (he decided to get of his Uly on the off road part)
Glad the £99 has brought someone else into the fold, the 1125 is a truly cracking bike. I love mine.

I look forward to comparing notes next year at a few events, try and get to DG20's Buell night if you can (see events and rides thread).

Oh and Welcome!
JBR

Thanks for replies. Nice to know that someone is there - I've never used one of these forums before so it's good to see.

Firstly, thanks sportster_mann I was looking at the RAM MOUNT web site and reckoned that the hollow steering stem would be a workable solution but boy are they expensive. Thanks for the diagram and method to make/fit a mount.

Thanks to richie for good advice - you caint go wrong with a map...

JBR, yes I was at Castle Combe in the morning so we must have rubbed shoulders. I must have been in the group after you 'cos my Uly had bent bars and brake fluid pixxing out! Still fun though. I had the red VFR in the car park and I had a yellow stripe down arms of jacket. Are you (and onanist and Deepsix) in the Bristol area?
Gonna try and get a few miles closer to the first service tomorrow. Up to 7500 revs now – wow!

Cavok,

I couldn't find anything on the Ram Mount website that would fit - the hole in the steering stem nut is too small ...

The whole thing that I made cost less than a tenner - the most difficult thing to get was the blanking nut that I fitted over the steering stem nut as B&Q didn't sell anything the right size when I looked - had to go to a proper plumbers merchant.

Not sure if Ram mount is the same item as this.....

http://www.motohaus.com/acatalog/StemMount_Kit.html

Bit more expensive than SM's one but looks quite handy.

Saw it mentioned in the Fast bike magazine, along witha fetching photo of Tubbs alongside their 1125R. Good to see hasn't compromised his standards and he managed to get a McDonalds meal out of them too

Boots still a bit chamfered Kev. Haven't got round to building them up again. Shame that Academy days are over( I'm assuming) I bet if they do their analysis quite a few punters have bought since ;especially recently.
it's good that Jon has done all the research for the recent buyers. Just think even if he ever gets the nerve to do a flying lap he can't now
