Hi all...

Just placed my order on a new 2009 1125R today!

It just had to be the white one with blue wheels...
(after the fun i had at Cadwell on the Buell performance event)

After taking out the 2008 (mod'ed demo) at my local dealer last year,
i just had to have one when the price came down. :yup:

All being well i'll have it next week.

Steve

Hi Steve,

Well done...They're fantastic! I bought one earlier this year ('08 Model), pic attached! or click on this link: http://www.throwawaydomain.co.uk/Buell_1125r.JPG
I test rode one last year and found that they are a bit of a pain through town at low revs and 30mph, I had to keep the revs up and slip the clutch a bit for a smooth ride without the stuttering. This didn't bother me too much as I'd always had V-Twins (RSV's, SP's etc) and they can be a bit lumpy sometimes but I took my 1125R to my local Buell Dealer (Silverstone Harley-Towcester) and they fixed it straight away by removing the emission restrictions that are standard on these bikes - no parts needed- just labour- The best £150 I've ever spent! she's now as smooth as silk with a few extra horses too! Sadly, and with much regret, I now have to sell her (I'm 51 years old, have an Aprilia Tuono and a Harley Softail as well and the Buell's a bit quick for me now!)
She's on Ebay..Item Number: 130338923606

If they removed your solenoid then would have needed to fit the Buell resistor plug or bodge up a resistor of similar value. (and you would have been charged for parts ;) )
The emissions (noise) noid didn't make the bike run roughly, it just closed the butterflys a little in 3rd gear only.
Find out what the dealer did, it sounds like B/S to me.
They MAY have reflashed your ECU - any good dealer does this for nowt, if so, you've been scammed out of £150.
Go back and ask for EXACT details because the ONLY emissions restriction is the Active Air Solenoid and would take an unskilled Chimpanzee half an hour (max) to remove ;) In which case I hope a £300 p/h labour charge is acceptable

If my new bike is a 2009MY 1125R, shouldn't all the 2008MY bugs have been iron out by now?? I've not heard of anyone 'unrestricting' an 08, just getting the dealer to do all the required mods...??

Is there free extra power to be had?? If so, i want some!! :yup:

Nope  I doubt the clutch release mechanism has the upgrade, so it's a question of when, rather than if, the hydraulic fluid will leak. The cam chain tensioner on certain Vin numbers, needed a recall (to have a lighter spring fitted so the chain didn't tear up tensioner, liberating bits of plastic that could block oilways  what a fekin' bodge to fix a serious problem  ) I'm not sure that the 'R' model was affected by this despite having the same motor.
The Helicon motor was designed to put out a lot more power than it does. There's a lot of potential in there but it will cost big money to release it. If you need more power, you're a riding God and you're buying the wrong bike ;) :D

Believe Adam, he is completely right - the only "derestricting" mod there is can be done by anyone that can wield the T30 Torx key that you need to take the seat and airbox off, and will only take 30 minutes even if you drop the screws and not be able to find them again !

Basically - take the seat off by undoing 2 torx head screws, take the airbox cover off by undoing 4 torx head screws, unplug the solenoid from the wiring loom and plug in the resistor ( part no: Y0248.1AM, less then £7 at your local dealer ). Then put the airbox cover and seat back on - job done.

Unless they also removed the solenoid - which would involve more labour as you need to remove the inner airbox to get at it - but that is a little overkill ( unless you are a riding god you may appreciate the 2lb weight saving) - did they offer you any parts that they removed ?

:yt: You should've brought it to me, I'd have only charged you £140 for doing that. Bargain

You could even cut the wires and solder in your own 3 Ohm resistor - this would cost pennies from Maplins etc ;)

Ahhhh! "Expert" Eh?.......All I know is they don't fuel properly as standard at low revs so I took it in and had the mechanic sort it. I don't really care how much it cost, my days of buggering about as a DIY "Grease Monkey" are long gone as I have the money to pay people these days, I used to worry about this sort of stuff when I was broke!
I did find the detailed paperwork for the work done and it seemed fair enough to me.
Anyway, must go....gotta pack for my Holiday to Florida now (going to Orlando Harley and cruising from Daytona to Indian Shores!)
Seeya!

So, out of interest, what did Silverstone charge you £150 for? The reflash which affects fueling, amongst other things, isn't DIY but was done free by Mchr HD and I didn't even buy the bike off them. It certainly isn't a 'restriction' in any shape or form, so I'm interested in what you dealer is claiming they did?
After all, most people are happy to share their technical experiences here.
