Post subject:  Hello from Wiltshire

Hi Folks. I've finally joined after visiting a few times over the years (now I need some advice :) )

I've got a red 2007 model XB12S that I've had for about 10 years and absolutely love it. I've occasionally thought about changing for something newer but have never found anything else that does everything the Buell does.

The advice I mentioned is a problem I've got with removing the Remus silencer that the bike came with (it needs a bit of welding). The front silencer mounting bracket attaches to the front of the crankcase through what looks like a bush and is held with a mushroom headed stainless allen screw. This screw seems seized in place (not surprising with a stainless screw in alloy) and I can't see any reason why it would be threaded.

Has anyone else had this problem and is it just a case of penetrating oil/heat and then drifting it out or is there a more subtle way?

Any advice is much appreciated.

Cheers

Mick

Hi Mick ,welcome on here!

Excelled choice you have
The red ones are the nicest ones there are (for bikes that is)

You could try to drill the bolt head off ,take sharp drill bits and start with a small one and from there go bigger.
Drill slow and steady.
Other option is to put a weld on the bolt head or weld a piece of scrap onto it to get a grip.
A mig welder is the best to use for this.

Hi Mick, welcome to the site.

Good to have another Bueller in the Southwest - I'm just over the border in Somerset.

Thanks BiB. My other thought was to mig-weld a nut on to the head of the allen screw so I can twist it (the allen screw head is too small to take any great pressure). Drilling the bolt out is probably my final option (particularly as it's stainless so will be quite hard) but I'll do this if I need to. Having looked in the manual again it does look like it's mounted through a bush rather than direct into the crank case so I'm less worried about damaging the cases.

Oh come on, are there only two or three real bikers in the South East, Nice to know you've joined up but have you thought about moving to sunny East Sussex where the really fast immaculate BLACK Buells live ? We have roads smooth as a runway and no speed cameras at all. Even the single policeman waves and smiles :rotfl: :rotfl:
Anyway no it's not threaded, just seized up so treat with care, warm it up and beat it out carefully like Brothers said.
:yup:
