Hi everyone, there may be a lot of dumb questions in this so I will apologise in advance. I've been hankering after something different to add to the stable and had my heart set on a firebolt but my mate has turned my head with the idea of a Ulysses and if I'm being honest it makes complete sense. I have just missed out on a late model bike, mainly because I was on call so couldn't get to view it and I'm not comfortable with buying only based on digital pictures. I have 4 bikes already but admit to knowing next to nothing about Buell's. Can anyone advise me on the best model to go for? I've noticed subtle differences in mudguards etc but is there any significant changes? I've been told that the last of the bikes have a stronger bottom end but what else should I look out for? Any members in the Liverpool area?

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Hi and welcome

New to ully ownership myself and there are a lot more knowledgeable folk than me on here.

Changes every year, most were improvements. Major changes in 2008, became the X or XT (more than just cosmetic differences). 2008 on X was made more off road friendly (better turning circle, etc), while the XT was more road biased, (luggage as standard, etc).

I went for the 2009 XT, very happy.

Welcome, you are only about an hour away from a font of all knowledge about Buells in Manchester. I don't know if Liverpudlians do enter Manchester but it might be the most useful and educating visit you make before entering the world of Buelldom.

Being one of the few scousers that hates football the Liverpool/ Manchester divide has completely passed me by so provided I don't need an interpreter a visit will be on the cards. Thanks for the heads up 😉

Hard to say but as they claim to have been mainly influenced by the Beatles it's a bit of a chicken and egg situation 😋

Pan - 'it's a bit of a chicken and egg situation',

Amazingly my 12 year old daughter answered this question to my satisfaction last month (asuming you go with the whole evolution scenario) -
" At some time, an egg not laid by a chicken contained a chicken, therefore the egg came first"

Welcome to the forum!

The Buell specialist in Manchesters accent is hard to understand but if you listen carefully and ask him to repeat himself sometimes you can easily pick up that you're in the right place. He is very patient (in the flesh).

I also, maybe, am looking at the Ulysses for next year for the stable. The man in Manchester gave me a good tip on which one to go for and it makes good sense. So get yourself up there...and leave the wet teaspoon in the sugar pot, he loves that :rotfl:

No one else on the forum has difficulty understanding him BTW...it might just be me (clue is in the profile name)

Anyway good luck in your Buell pursuits, you are about to enter a very unique ownership group...prepare for the head turners and conversation starters!
