Hello all, am seriously considering buying an XB12ss which has only a few hundred miles on it from new, all standard but quite expensive at £8k. Should I look for anything in particular and is it worth it? I'm tempted but worry about future spare parts and niggles with it, any advice gratefully taken. Cheers.

It sounds massively overpriced

You might wish to stop and consider that if the owner bought it in 2009 he would have paid £5k for it with zero miles.

I have one , fantastic bike and 35 000 trouble free miles . I wouldn't give more than £3500 for it.

It feels like a lot of dosh. My advice would be to look for an older 'Mazed ' example. XB's are incredible to ride but like all Buells have inherent problems that have fixes learnt over time. If you can get one that has all this work done, you stand more chance of being able to enjoy it for longer :yup:

Just my two pennies worth :D

Great bikes, find someone that can actually work on them, and listen to them, there is a lot of duff information out there, that will cost you time and money, and have you selling your Buell for nothing....
Very much a living project, bit like a vintage bike, dont expect it to be a "ride and forget" bike, things like, plug leads can wear through, plug removal is an art, but soon get used to, if you need to work on it, it will make loads of parts, and soon fill a space like you'd never believe.
have good quality tools, cheap will soon have those Torx heads torn and useless.

If its not been well looked after walk away. end of.

you say £8000, sounds expensive, I'd want belt, bearings cables changed before going out on it, might not have many miles, but everything is old, and not been used much, which will fail within a couple of months of normal use.

I've had mine a couple of years now, and have been close to a gallon of fuel over the top on a couple of occasions, been all dressed to go and had it not start, been brought home in a van non running once. had the engine rebuilt once, gearbox undercut, and yes, that all important oil pump upgrade done, after 20000 miles on the standard one, Freespirit tensioner is a good move, as is AA membership.

If you can live with the downside, the upside is a ride like you've never had...thats why I still have mine! £3500 paid, £3000 spent... £6500 owed, worth, fuck all cos they are shite!
Still, nice to get an unbiased response eh? :D

Stood for a few years with acidic condensation in the engine probably due to it rarely getting up to full operating temp. maybe.
