Finally got my self a nice shiney Black 2009 model Ulysses 8700 miles in completely standard condition. Just gotta get used to it, just ridden to Southern Spain on my 1000 Fazer and then hopped on the Buell on Saturday, both great bikes but yet totally different !! I have a couple of questions ?? When starting, the starter seems quite reluctant to turn engine over, there's a slight delay ( I assume getting over compression) then it turns over reasonably freely and starts. Good voltage on the battery 12.8 to 13.1 volts . The dealer I bought it from said this was how they are! Is this correct? The other question is where is the ECM socket located for EcmSpy lead to be plugged into, I looked under seat but can't see it ! Any help would be much appreciated. |

Both my Buells initially crank slowly, I ride with 3 friends occasionally there's all crank from cold slowly. I think it's safe to say " they all do that Sir" The other question is where is the ECM socket located for EcmSpy lead to be plugged into, I looked under seat but can't see it ! Socket pops out of the left hand side of the sub frame under the riders leg. If you have the comfort kit fitted you will need to unclip the small black cover. My Buells don't have a noticeable hesitation unless the batteries are on their way out. |

Thanks for the reply Pash . What is the general expected starter motor life on a Buell XB ? I'll have a look for the lead socket |

Dunno as per starter life, never had a problem, but they are fully rebuildable. I would be looking for a battery when it no longer turns over... |

Is this correct? check earth connections battery to sub frame , sub frame to frame etcI fitted another earth lead from battery direct to main frame better but still has its moments |

Mines always been like this. Original battery - now 7 years old. No problems actually starting it ever. Recommend a optimate or similar |

Thanks for the advice I think I'm going to get an optimate. It's never not started but its just so sluggish until it gets over compression then she's off ! |

Check the voltage across the battery when turning over, then check the voltage at the starter motor when doing the same. If you've got dodgy connections anywhere you will see a difference in the voltages....then you can start chasing it back to find the problem. If there is little difference and it's still sluggish then it's likely your battery is on its way out... |
