Hi All

Ive just recently bought a Buell Ulysses :D for touring with the wife as she didn't like sitting on the back of the busa.

I know I shouldn't compare the ride to the busa but I'm finding the Ulysses rear suspension very soft - can someone let me know if this is standard? (maybe I'm just not used to this type of bike yet?)

Ive done the typical suspension test and it returns straight away without any after bounce so i don't think it's shot!?

Any advise please & can you buy stiffer suspension?

thanks

Kev

You have put the preload to max and the compression damping the same?

I bought an AST for mine and got a 20% stiffer spring. You could get the spring changed.

ok thanks

so just to check i'll set the pre-load to max - is that hi or low (never know which way does what :? )

and how do i adjust compression damping?

i'll look into the aftermarket shocks/springs

thanks

Screw the knob in all the way for max preload.

The damping is addressed by the screws on the reservoir under the seat and at the bottom of the shock. Screw in for more damping.

You may need a stiffer spring as adding pre load will only alter the sag - this may do the trick though. As Pash has pointed out, playing with the spring will require the damping to be altered.
I've never had a Ully, but a lot of folk here have toured 2 up without needing a new spring.

ok thanks for ya help guys i will have a play with the preload later.

I do have another issue - not sure if i should start another post or not but..

i was just looking over the bike this weekend and noticed that a rubber hose had been laying against the exhaust (up near the seat) and has completely melted through (hose now broken in 2).

I managed to find 1 end of it which was not attached and came from under the front of the seat (to the left of the fan) and the other end is squeezed down the middle of the engine somewhere.

The bike seems to run fine so im wondering if this is a breather pipe for something? (maybe to depressurise under seat cavity or more than likely a fuel breather pipe?)

Please can someone confirm what it is and where it is supposed to go?

thanks very much

Sounds like the gearbox breather

ok thanks

so can i just chop the pipe back a little bit away from the exhaust or do i have to replace the whole length and run it up under seat?

thanks

I have exactly the same issue. Looks like it should have been cable ties to the metal covered pipe below it.
I shall be most likely replacing the full length. Did consider putting a short section of stainless or ali rigid pipe in where passes near the exhaust??
