Post subject:  Hello to all Buell-riders

Hi,
My name is Les, live near Stevenage - Herts. I am looking for local Buell-owners to share know-how and rides out.
I am hoping to get my hands on 1999 X1 lightning soon (by Xmas). I can see it as winter project - it has been stationary for 2-3 years so needs overhaul - any help or advice would be much appreciated.

One question to start with:
As much as being optimistic I am growing concern that I wouldn't be able to use it as all year round commuter. Is there a remedy for all reliability glitches?

I am touring down A1 every day to Hyde Park borders - 80miles/day trip.

Thanks, Les.

....and if you want to use it as an 'all year round' bike you need to do something to stop it corroding away into oxidised dust by spring... :o

Hi I'm in Potters Bar. I don't commute on mine as it gets bloody hot in traffic, though I've just discovered that it needs a new rubber hose on the intake side which may help to bring the temp down.
I have been to Barcelona on mine & it did survive an hour in the rush hour when we got lost.
Welcome & hope you enjoy the bike.

Hi, so far I've put rain cover on. Next week it is going into garage until I'll get my hands on V5.
I am hoping to do some preliminary checks on state of the bike in next couple of weeks.

Not to mention putting aside some money.... :coat:

Here it is - made my best X-mas ever :D

I cannot wait to start working on it.
Mirrors, battery break level etc. on buying list - and still several weeks wait for new set of keys, but who cares
I wasn't that excited for very long time :D

Yarrrrrrrr................

I know it sounds weird - but there is whole story to it.

Cutting it all short - I've reclaimed it from London's street where it was standing abandoned for last 3 years. My search with Local Council, Met and DVLA for last owner brought me to happy end of owning this forgotten bike.
I know V5 it's not a proof of ownership but in this case I was advised by Met and DVLA to do what I did.

Would you believe it - I wouldn't if it wasn't true.

I will post more pic and details once I will fire it

I'm sure nobody would abandon something like that by choice though ....................... so I'm sure there is a very sad story somewhere concerning the real owner of it.
