Post subject:  Taking the plunge

Hello everyone.
Firstly please allow me a moment to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy healthy and prosperous new year.

OK down to business, I am an ancient biker who in my time has owned and ridden most everything from old cranky british (crap) bikes through old jap bikes BMW boxers and K series new Jap bikes new and old Italian exotica and new (Hinckley) Triumphs, I have a particular fondness for Mr Kawasaki's product however now I find myself staring down the barrel of Buelll ownership in the shape of an 1125R.
Please what should I be looking out for,are they as good as they appear, why are there so many 'unused' low mileage examples on the market, is there something wrong with them that I will only find out after I have parted with £4K?

Thanks in advance for any answer or advice.

Alll the best
jerry

Only two real potential problems with them ...............leaky clutch slave cylinder (cure is an Oberon unit at £125 ) if it's a 2009 or 2010 model (black frame) there is a potential problem with burning out stators the 2008 models (blue frame) don't suffer this as they have a lower output alternator.
I've just had a modified rotor fitted to my 2009 and time will tell if this is a permanent cure or not , it has a small oil jet drilled into it to spray oil onto the stator to attempt to cool it and prevent it burning out .
Apart from that they are fantastic bikes , I took my CR to Brno in 2010 and it never missed a beat and averaged 42mpg fully laden with camping gear etc .
Follow the manual to the letter regarding fitting wheels because if you overtighten the spindles you WILL crush the spacers and then destroy wheel bearings .

They have their idiosyncrasies but when you ride them you realise just how much fun they are. Have 10k on mine now and had the clutch slave cylinder leak at 3000 miles fixed and no prob since, will put an Oberon part in if goes again. Have had a problem with voltage regulator hopefully solved by fitting an aftermarket one, Bearings seem fine and will address the stator prob if and when it arises. They don't really like slow town type stuff and that's where you'll probably heat up the stators anyway. Great power delivery quite noisy engine disguised well by fitting an Albert exhaust
A good fun bike for the money, white ones are by far the best :yup:

The Helicon is a fantastic machine, it doesn't have a torque curve, it has a torque line lOl 8-)
In a like for like comparison with my 1198 Duc, I'd say it was probably a better bike despite it being (a lot) less powerful. Out of the box, it handled much better than the Duke and on real roads, the A to B times would be similar since it's much easier to ride :yup: lOl

To get the best out of it, fit a EBR ecu and it will be transformed again :yup:
If the clutch starts to weep (and it will lOl ) fit the Oberon kit, and it'll be sorted.
Since they are so cheap to buy, fit an Albert pipe (top quality - I've seen none better) and a AST rear shock - again top quality, but the bike handles fine despite the OEM Showa being fit only for a Christmas cracker :yup:

Almost 12000 on my 1125r including trips to Monza,Aragon and Nurburgring, the only problems have been clutch weep(on warranty) and a new battery.Rear original tyre lasted 6000 miles,Front replaced at the same time but would have gone a fair bit further.Normal travelling companions abroad include R1 and ZZR1400 riders but no problem keeping up.Just enjoy it,Ride it hard and dont worry.

only problem i've really had was the leaky clutch, other than that great bike, great value too at the moment :yup:

I agree they appear to be great value, that's why I am so worried :? , £4K for a 59 plate bike with 3000 miles does appear to be a bargain, better just buy it I suppose :?:

Wow, would have thought (much) closer to £3k would be more apt...

Post subject:  Re: Taking the plunge

why fit an AST shock when the OEM one CANT work to its full potental due to belt being as tight as it is and preloading ALL the bearing and NEGATING the use of a decent shock F.......FS  :old:
