This will be my first ever post on here and I wanted to say Hello and ask a few questions if this is an appropriate place to do so. Im looking for an XB12XT Ulysses if anyone knows of one for sale, and secondly Id like to know if anyone knows where in the South I can get it serviced at reasonable cost, assuming I manage to find one. I was also hoping I might find someone localish to me who has one that might be persuaded to let me have a short go on. I have my own fully comp bike insurance for anything not owned by me coincidentally. Im only 5ft 9 and wondered if this might be a problem.

Any replies gratefully received......

Heres hoping something comes along soon.

Think im on my 36th or so bike now, as I get bored easily, but think the Buell might just be for me.......

I s there a world of differnce between a 56 plate xb12x and a xb12xt. I just drove to Shepperton to have a look at one thats advertised on Autotrader. It was a 56 plate yellow XB12X, with oxford heated grips, wondering if it might have been owned by a member of this parish. last owner was loaded apparently and traded it in for a KTM, so sayeth the man selling it. Anyway expectations were raised, the bike looked nice in its black and yellow,so he started it up, and I bloody nearly sh*t myself. BY Christ its LLLOOOUUUUUDDDDD.....
he left it running on its sidestand and it did its own little vibratey tango across the workshop floor. So, anyway, on to the test ride. It was a very short test rode consisting of approximately 0 minutes and 0 seconds. Apparently although this guy is a bike dealer he doesnt allow test rides. Says test ride insurance is very expensive, but then turning away disgruntled customers who have just come 40 odd miles to stand by a bike and just listen to it running and vibrate across the workshop floor isnt my idea of fun. By the way, when he turned the ignition on, but not the engine it whirred constantly, whats that all about.???

So anyway enough of my rambling.

Will a XB12XT ulysses be identical in behaviour to the xb12x??

I'm running out of ideas now. I cant find anywhere that has a Buell less than a couple of hundred miles away, so I guess I'll stick with my 800ST for now, not that theres anything wrong with it, but I really like the look and the sound of the Buell. Oh and the touring ability!!!

Engines are very different, the later ones are more robust with a bigger crank pin and redesigned oil pump.

The engine control is simpler on the pre-08 bikes.

Continuous whirring suggests a short on the fuel pump, many posts about it but from memory it is a case of pulling the pump out of the tank and applying heat shrink to the chaffed wire.

It depends how long you're talking about by "constantly" ... the fuel pump primes each time you switch on, so could run for a while. the difference between X and XT was in the ride height (and the original tyres) as XT was more road-biased.

Obviously the word "constantly" is a bit of a misnomer, but I think I had the ignition switched on for about 5 minutes while i checked all the other electrics and all the while it seemed to be whirring away to itself.

I'm not gonna give up. Think I'll keep looking........
