hello everyone,thanks for membership.I have an 07 xb9 that i use for my commute to work last couple of years, stuck a jardine exhaust and hid kit to keep cars at bay. works superbly.looking forward to more social riding this year so will get to some events , cheers mike

Nope, you're a young 'un. I passed my test Aug 71, in Hessle.

From '67 to '71 I'd be grasstracking on the fields next to Leads Rd/Sutton Rd corner, and doing ridiculous straightline speeds on the disused railway line to Sutton & beyond. Happy Days.

I passed mine in Jan 76 .............. but learnt to ride and drive in a field my Grandparents had next to Legbourne railway station which they had bought off British rail ( and do I regret not buying that off them for about 30K in my early twentys ).
First bike was a 197 villiers engined heap of scrap that me and my brother bought for £5 while still at school ........... we spend many a happy hour in that field learning to ride ( dad used to drop us off with a gallon of petrol and then pick us back up after he'd been to the pub )
We learnt to drive in a £20 Bedford van with sliding doors in the same field ...............the difference with that was we got dropped off with a gallon of petrol and a fully charged battery .......... The Ant hills in the field used to be as high as the bonnet so it got interesting when you got stuck in them ...............the van was a bit heavy to push when we got it stuck so we set to with a hammer and big chisel and chopped all the body off level with the floor at the back and at windscreen level at the front ...............it really flew without all that extra weight .......................until the day we got stuck ,put it in reverse and it promptly folded in half
Oh and the Louth to legbourne railway line was pretty good for getting some speed on when we progressed to tiger cubs and C15's

Passed my test in '76 on a Bantam, but had been using a 500 Matchless for some time before this (until my Dad found out and took it off me )

in the 70s we used to use marfleet lane football pitch as our grasstrack. untill my mate had his first go, ran out of talent, wiped out fence and crashed into greenhouse ,we found him in there ,still sat on bike covered in geraniums and compost .that took some explaning, mike

Hello Mike...sounds like we hail from the same neck of the woods..born and bred in East Yorkshire, east Hull, Bilton Grange, Greatfield Estate, as digger sed your not that old...did my test 1973 in Sailsbury Street with Mr Smith I was 17 then, same guy did my HGV class 1. 4years later at Beverly I told him about my bike test and he asked, did i pass you? yes says i, must have been in a good mood that day, also passed my HGV first time so caught him on 2 good days. I live acoss the other side of the river now, living in exile in North Lincolnshire, but theres plenty going on in UKBEG so no doubt we will meet up some were on the road, I too ride a XB9R..
