Hi all :)
I am a newbie, both to Buells and this forum, which I must say is very professional and informative. I am stunned at the breadth of knowledge and skill of people such as Pash to name but one.
I have been a bike rider for 37 years and have owned more bikes than I can remember, usually 4 plus at once. (singledom is a great help here!) I have worked as a mechanic, salesman, despatch rider and instructor, and have loved almost every minute, so I seem to have found the right place! Over the years, I have found v twins suit my riding style the most, I can do fours, but when the chips are down, a twin will always find more grip.
I come to the point of buying a Buell via a long line of V's:
Suzuki TL 1000 (what was all the bloody fuss? Rode it damperless balls out everywhere, it was flighty but huge fun.)
'97 916 SPS (Pre the ECM softening, the race chip made the bike a real handful but soooo rewarding :D)
'01 996 SPS (Bad move, sure it had full house Ohlins, but the delivery was so soft my grannie could ride it! Had a trainee, good rider, who sacked the test through nerves. He was beating himself up something rotten, so I took him back to the yard and sat him on the Duke. Was he surprised when I said we were going out! ;) Rode about ten miles to a Maccy D, nothing too fierce. When we got there, he was shaking so much with excitement and adrenaline he couldn't hold the coffee without spilling it! That and his grin reminded me why I love this so much. It's the biggest perk of the job :D
2 x Bros 650's one with the whole overbore, fireblade shock, CBR6 front end thing. What the Dukes did above 80 the bros did below.
'03 1200s sporty, adorable, if slightly incapable, back in the mists of time I had a '66 XLCH, I was kind of hoping it would have the same raw brutality, but it was just too soft and too long winded and expensive to sort. If Harley could reintroduce the 66, they would never keep up with demand. I am hoping a tuber Buell will have the same soul and rider involvement.
Last, but far from least is my current honey, a 1994 FXLR, completely customised in 2004 by Paul Yaffe in Arizona. A stunning and rewarding machine, but I still hanker for that tucked in, earholing around a roundabout buzz..... So, Buell would seem to be the way to go.
I have a question. There is a bike on eBay, number 160694626421 Does anyone know it? If not could you give me some advice. Or, preferably, is there anyone willing to check it over for me? All expenses covered and a damn fine thrash included of course! :)
Sorry to bend your ears, but there are so many questions, even more after reading the forums! Lol

So, Merry Christmas one and all, remember how lucky we all are!

You only ever see one motorcycle outside a psychiatrists, the one the psychiatrist owns!

If it ain't a V, it ain't for me!

Andy

Hi

I think it was this person, who is on BadWeb at least, who owned it.

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/ ... arol-users

I sent you a PM, however I would be concerned about the state of tune it was in and would at least want to know what had been done to the motor...

Cheers

Nick

It's very pretty, but very expensive. Personally, I'd avoid like the plague, after reading about 'engine work done'. To get it's big bore, the bolt lug may have been machined out between the cylinders, to get the barrels to fit. Some say it's ok, but I really wouldn't want that on my bike. They are more than capable of keeping up with badly ridden sportsbikes when you sort the handling 8-)
There's recalls that need doing on the bike too, for one, the shock should've been replaced but I wouldn't rate your chances now  . A vastly superior AST rear shock, won't be cheap (but will be worth every penny 8-) ) and the rear isolators will need replacing with the type that don't shear - and that's just for starters :o
In short, it'll be a money pit - but will be huge fun lOl

Can't really help you, Tubers aren't my forte ...

But welcome anyway !

If you really feel the need for speed then don't discount the Rotax engined models, they can be deceptively quick ...
