Post subject:  Howdoo? and greetings from Mallorca.

Hello Buellers, Mick from Mallorca here.

No Buell for me at the moment, but I'm considering it......
I've had loads of bikes in my "Yoof" (I'm originally from Tamworth) in the late 70's and through the 80's.
I left U.K. in 92, and haven't lived there since. I had a good job with Cat in Desford, but I was bored, young, and had sand in my shoes, so I buggered off to Spain, worked as a dive guide in Gibratar for a while, sailed around the world, ended up working on Superyachts, went around the world again, and sort of ended up here on Fraggle Rock.
I've been running a vulgar shiny white Gin palace for the last 9 years. Life's O.K. Oh, and I forgot to mention I married a Spanish lass along the way there somewhere!

I got back in the saddle a couple of years ago, and made the mistake of thinking I should buy something a bit slower as I'm not the leary Yoof I used to be, so I bought a CCM R30. Mmmm........ fun for the first couple of rides, then I realised I realy should have bought something with a bit more go, and riding a bike is a bit like erm....well, riding a bike!
It doesn't take long to get back into it does it?

Anyway, the CCM has gone, and I fancy a big rorty noisey beast.
I'm considering a tube frame bike. Initially I thought I wanted an S1, as being an Old School type of Guy, I still like carburettors (or should I spell it carburetor as we're talking American bikes here?) and I'm not a fan of electronic gagetry.
But I'm swaying towards the X1 now, as I think I prefer the looks of the bike. Especially with the short tailpiece.
I'm a bit handy with the spanners and a spray gun, so I'd probably be looking for something I can ride, but slowly change it to my own taste.
It would also only be a fine weather toy, so I'm not worried about having to fettle it to keep it happy.
After all I've owned a CCM, and they tend to get lighter, as bits fall off!

So I've had a lurk around this excellent site, and apart from shock absorbers falling apart, engine sprockets coming loose, and rear engine mounts, is there anything else I should look out for?

Thanks in anticipation.

Regards to all,
Mick.

Motorrad, that should kill a few hours! Thanks for the heads up on that.

Maz, what sort of hard earned would I be parting with for a 2001 X1? Ballpark of course.

pash, the ice cream here is, erm...cold. lOl In fact the weather is quite chilly right now, and wet!

Regards,
Mick. :wtbk:

About 30 miles to the SW. We're spuds, 4 or 5 crops a year. Most of them go to Blighty. lOl

Ash. I've seen that one, but at the bottom of the listing it says Sold?
I've been watching the yellow one. Maybe the awfull colour scheme will put folks off. 8-)

That's definately a bit of me!
Anyone on here imported from the States/ Wondering what the costs are, and what's involved.

By the way, now I've introduced myself, should I be starting a new thread now? Or is it acceptable to carry on here?
Don't want to piss anyone off, me being a newcomer and all!

Welcome , I've got an X1 and I'm on Tenerife, just make sure all the lights are 'e' marked when you do the matriculation, and get a German headlamp lens....also anything with a Supertrapp won't pass the ITV unless it has an open end on it, I am running a stock exhaust and it runs ok... Good choice of bike, but it's not an everyday comfort bike if you ask me, but way more comfortable than the XB's on a long distance.....mine is more reliable than my old Yammy XT Tenere I had....

Supertrapps are ok, they just need modding, what's an 'albert' ? I thought the best one was a vance and Hines, or a tubbs gutted stock exhaust?
