Hi all! I'm a very proud owner of a Buell Ulysses, 2007 model. This is just my 2nd "real" motorbike, having previously had a Yamaha MT-03 (great toy, little power) which I really do not miss, as the Uly puts a grin on my face at every throttle twist. I have a question for the other owners, I hope you guys can help: When I first got my back in Feb, it ran great for 3 days before starting to lose power to then completely die in my hands (bad luck i know). Long story short, the guys at Warr's London found that the ECM had completely screwed up, that the ignitors kept on going even with the ignition turned off causing the oil tank to be flooded with gasoline. The problem was fixed with a remap and complete clean-up, the bike has been running great ever since... at least I think.. When the engine is cold, and until it's very warm, fast accelerations are a no-go, as the engine would hiccup and sometimes hit proper holes. This only happens to me in 1st and 2nd gear between 1500 and 3500 rpms. I have installed a breather reroute and the problem has decreased, however I still feel a gap in power delivery within these ranges. Also, Buells are supposed to have tons of torque, but there is no way in the world that mine would lift its front wheel up from a traffic light... ![]() Have you guys experienced this? If yes how did you solve it? Am I right in thinking that I could benefit from a remap? Do you know a decent mechanic in London that won't charge £100 p/h (like Warr's)? ps I also have a Remus exhaust and Powerizer |

Yes I always thought the powerizer was useless even more so after reading other threads.. Q: do I need a remap if I were to remove it or will a simple tps reset do? |

Thanks Pash. I noticed from other posts that you take some scientific approach for optimising your baby.. What kind of setup/mods do you have? |

Only a Remus and K&N on the Uly. It is a utility bike so it has the Remus cos it doesn't rust and it has the K&N cos it can... |

Welcome aboard sir; but before you get carried away in the tuning department, please remember your Uly ( and mine ) is powered by a piece of 1950's farm machinery. It is ( should be ) quick enough to have fun on, but it will never set the world on fire in the performance stakes. 85 rwhp can only do so much. |

The thing is that I never had the chance to compare it to another Buell, so I'm just a bit anxious as to what the "real" performance should be like and whether it is actually running at its best or not. |

I would have said they are good wheelie machines, it was a struggle to keep the front end down on my XB. |

well it will be a bit rough until its properly warmed up - but thats a big clue that you need to warm it up carefully before trying to abuse it - its a big old lump of metal to get warm and it takes its time. preferably let it warm up for several minutes before you get on it and ride away and then give it a mile or 2 before giving it a handful. regarding wheelies, personally i prefer having both wheels firmly on the tarmac at all times, but the long suspension travel on the uly means the front feels very light whenever you pull away with any degree of enthusiasm, especially 2 up. i found it quite unnerving 2 up but i have subsequently had it lowered to the same height as an xb12ss using a different shock with a heavier spring which completely cured that behaviour ( as well as allowing me to reach the ground ) at the expense of no longer being able to monster speedbumps. if you are in doubt then a trip to a dyno will reveal whether you have performance issues for the sake of forty quid or so - your torque curve should be more or less a straight line and you should have around 85 bhp at the wheel; a good one can manage a little more but to make much more than 95 gets expensive ( very ) and will not help reliability. less than 80 and something is not right - allegedly there are some out there which just dont go as they should even when properly set up. |
