Welcome................

all/most of the advice given is good advice and worth taking on board. One thing is for sure when riding bikes, you will find out that adrenalin is brown, runs down your leg and smells lOl

That's all good advice. These people know what they're talking about.

I should add that decent gear does not have to break the bank. Since you're in the East Midlands, check out JTS Biker Clothing in Coalville, Leicestershire (http://www.jtsbikerclothing.com). I wear a two-piece leather suit by them, which I've had for about 4 years now and it only cost about £200. I'm sure it's not quite up to the protection levels of the very expensive suits, but it's infinitely better than jeans and a t-shirt, and fits my (rather ample) frame very well.

I'm on my second set of JTS 2 piece leathers. The first set got tested on numerous occasions over a 6 year period and were eventually replaced because I got too fat for them.

The previous contributions offer some wise words, so here are mine which you may judge for yourself.

You said ‘I don't have a motorcycle but it's something I'm considering’. Well, if you need to consider more than whether you can afford the asking price, then biking is probably not for you.

Beginner bikes – IMO anything with substantial performance is not a beginner bike; you may kill yourself or scare yourself s***less before you get the hang of it.

‘Why, if I can be safer, would I choose the less safe alternative?’ – For the fun of it of course. You’re sounding less like you want to the more you think about it. Are you sure you can live with the risk and still enjoy it? If not then don’t, go back to bed and snuggle down tight. All of life contains some risk; it’s just a question of how much you are happy with.

If you finally decide to pursue two wheel thrills, then sooner rather than later spend some money on an off road skills day or two. I don’t mean a track day blast but a structured training day with an organisation such as i2imca (done two so far and loved it) which takes riders of all experience levels and builds confidence through applying basic techniques in a safe (note) environment. A day of this can be better than a season’s trial and error road riding in the amount of improvement achieved.

Good luck.
