On the Rotax issue, I put many trouble free hours in my two Rotax engined Microlights but they were the 2 strokes. Had some pals flying with the Rotax 4 stroke engines but it was shortly before i gave the sport up.

I too have been disappointed to read of the engine issues with the 1125, fingers crossed the 2010 model is better.

That's the bit that concerns me too.

Although, tbh, not half as much as I am concerned about Maz and 03 agreeing with me.

Good points all well made, I suspect you'll be able to buy one of these 2010 Helicon bikes in about 18 months time for about £2.5k. They won't be looking quite such a bargain and there won't be so many new enthusiasts around then, I fear.

Good luck to anyone taking the plunge and parting with their hard earned wonga, but history isn't really on their side I'm afraid.

Disagree with that on so many levels, 03......tis only my opinion......but I think you'll find that I'm usually correct

Oh.....and the XB models will plummet in value......worth jack shit when current, even less now

Look back in history to see w Then, think about what was without a doubt "the best thought of Buell, the S1". Plain S1's cost £8995 and S1W's were £9995 back in 1998. The last few months has seen a fairly remarkable upturn in the values of some of those from their lows but they can still generally be bought for about 40% or so of their new value.

I think getting 40% of there value on a 10/11 year old bike is pretty good in fact even getting that after 4 or 5 years.

It's intresting reading all the talk about what the value will be of these bikes after a couple of years.
Personally I don't buy a bike with the intention of selling it who cares what they will be worth your still getting a stonking bike for very little money.

That's fair enough Norrie.

Well we agree 50% then Maz.

Buying a 2010 Helicon bike for ~50% of its new value after 18 months would be true to what's happened to just about every model of Buell ever released to date. Probably longer term they'll be an excellent purchase due to scarcity, but not over a short time frame I don't think. Again, a trend that's beginning to appear against earlier bikes, eg you could buy an RR1000 for less than $10000 a couple of years ago, you'd be lucky to get a good one for less than double that now. It will be a while yet before RS1200 and S2 values appreciate but it has already happened with the S1's since in Buell terms they're a lot more mainstream models. M2's and S3's will remain in the market as chopper fodder till there's virtually none left.

Highly speculative, purely academic debate I know, as I'm neither buying nor selling so it really doesn't matter to me. As I said above, both my bikes are almost worthless, I suspect they'll gently decay and rot in the garage until somebody "discovers" them in 20 years time.

Oh, I don't know so much really. Struggle to think of more than a handful of polite disagreements!

Any case, I suspect that you, like myself stopped worrying about what is posted in places like this many years ago. Most of what's posted is pure drivel, including my own semi coherent ramblings. I also know pretty much for a fact that like myself, being in a minority of one on any topic hasn't ever particularly bothered you either.

Now, don't you letting historical facts get in the way of a good one-liner.

Aye, 'tis true, especially the talk about "value". As Norrie says, and I reckon you'll agree when it comes to your own bikes, my X1 is not about money. Never mind the fact that Bernie remembers building my bike, or the fact that I bought it from Yoffi, I don't care what it's worth.

But all this talk about new "bargains" and the price drop to under £5k does drag topics that way.

You see, there you go again. Agreeing. What's the world come to. When I email Tom Anglim who built my RS1200-5 over the Xmas period in 1990 you have to feel for the guy losing his job. He was one of the first employees in the factory.

Guys,

Didn't think my humble opinion on rotex would open such a can of worms
It good to hear all the opinions on the engines and on the new buellers... Buell has alway been a niche brand, and the 1125R (and CR) was a new avenue for Buell, which some good innovation.. For me i was never going to be able to buy a brand new buell at the original prices, but the decision by HD to close buell has mean't now i can.

My experience with rotex has been with a BMW 650, and 2 RSVR.... and as far as the engines go, they have been good.

I just hope my experience with Buell will be as good.

Again, good to part of the forum, and looking forward to more interesting discussions :worthy: :worthy:
