Hello my name is Nick, (despite the username after my favourite brewer) Been riding on & off since I passed my test at 17 many many years ago now :old:

I'm hoping you guys are going to tell me that I'm not insane as I currently ride a Thundercat which is up for sale after nearly four fantastic years & I've fallen head over heels for the Buell XB Lightning

I'm trying hard at the moment to convince myself that the horror stories about the very expensive front sprocket output shaft bearing issues are few & far between?

The XB9S was the machine that caught my eye but the XB12S is becoming favourable too after reading the reviews, Hopefully either would be suitable as I'm a bit vertically challenged at 5'6" :oooops:

Any help with info would be greatly appreciated

Cheers Nick

ride before you buy, they arent for everyone, but if the buell thing clicks for you there's nothing else out there like it.

i never stop smiling when im out on mine: its everything i was looking for in a bike.

( but mine hasnt broken yet, so i have yet to experience the expensive side )

Thanks for the info, its very much appreciated!
Are these mods to the tensioner & lube nipple expensive to purchase?
As a competent DIY mechanic I guess I could fit them myself?

Thanks again, Nick

hi

welcome from a derby newb too, lol, the scg is a good choice as i looked at one before i went for the S1W, and is lower for my short legs than the S1W, and i was deliberating between a scg and a S1W but went for the S1W, whatever buell you get you will be smiling all the way.

Hi Nick, I have an S1 and its great. I had an XB before, and that was also great. In my opinion the performance and handling on both bikes is pretty similar. I can honestly say that my XB was totally trouble free, whereas I have had a number of niggly little problems with the S1.
The S1 is lower than the XBss. It might all be in the saddle, but on my XB I was on tiptoes, and on the S1, I can comfortably sit with both feet flat on the ground, although I use the word "comfortably" in a temporary sense! And yes in the worst case scenario, the tubers are easier and cheaper to repair. But I think you need to put this in perspective, we are not talking many bikes here, especially those with the snatch and nipple mod.

Welcome enjoy your Buell and keep an eye on here for top tips and therapy.
Tensioners available here and maybe elsewhere. A Run down to see Maz :askmaz: will get you sorted and educated and as you're from up North I guess he is just around the corner (or at least in the next Pit village)

You have to add shipping and VAT onto Trojan's prices though. He is a member on here although I haven't seen him posting for a while.
If you do nothing else, have a ride over to Dukinfield, Manchester and have a cupper with Maz :maz: . He is an absolute gem. Ring first though.
