Hi Everyone,
New to the forum but been riding since 1974 and I think it is Buell time. I have finally deceided that my existing ride must go and make way for a bigger dog to keep the two little Monsters and the Eliminator in the garage at heel so the only thing is a Buell.
Currently riding a KTM 640SM but ill health and recent surgery makes the bike too high and to sharp a seat for any comfort. It'll be advertised in the sale section when I get round to taking some pictures.
Now I need advice about which one. Went to see a Uly in 20-20 at Chester-le-Street but it was too high and wide so I guess its out but I do like the funky backrest/grab rail at the rear. Two teenage daughters rarely let me out on my own so I'm bound to take a pillion now and then and I don't want them disappearing off the back. The KTM is safest but the Monsters leave little room for mistakes!! Both lead to numbnuts.
I like the XB range best so perhaps an XB12Ss or Scg would be best although the XB9City Cross for sale by 'metalflake mac' look like it would fit the bill. The late tubers look most trad but seem to be rarer and I have been told the gearbox is suspect. DIY is not problem but computer controlled and tuned is still a bit beyond me. Don't like the 1125 at all.
Wont be doing a huge mileage, just having fun in my (early) retirement, I'm not a short arse (5'9) but since surgery I'm a flat arse!! Hence the need for a lowish seat.
Let me know your thought and if anyone fancies swapping thier Buell with a 55 plate 640 with only 1267 miles on it, let me know

Hi Duncan & Welcome - you'll probably be pleasantly surprised to find you're pretty near to the average Buelligan with that description .... :D

If you like the Uly with the tripletail, why not have a look at an XT? It's a lower, more road-oriented version of the Uly, perfect for the shortarse and very comfortable on long 2-up rides. I've notched up 11,000 plus miles on mine, almost all two-up, including plenty of rides to Ireland & into Europe.

Hello and welcome :D
The tubers do sometimes break the dogs on 4th gear but its a cassette box and a piece of piss to fix. Some older models pre 1999 have a gear detent selector plate made from wendsleydale again a cheap and easy to fit upgrade is available.
On balance tube framed models once they've had there recall faults sorted are more reliable and much, much easier to work on and maintain, so don't count them out. ( s1 would be a no no as the seat is similar to a push bike razorblade sadle).
Still if you prefer the XB's someone will be along soon who's a lot more knowledgeable on them than me.
