S1 for a pure gutteral raw experience. S1 is a money pit unless a lot of work has been done on it. S1 as you know is me and Gills 2 up tourer of choice( you'd have to sit on mags's lap though) S1 is better looking IMO X1 is a better engineered machine specially 2001 as most of the inherent probs have been ironed out i.e its the most evolved tuber....... But even Maz would probably agree that it doesn't necessarily mean that they are better to ride and he's got THE 2 best examples of both that I have seen. An ast shock is easily adjustable to lower the back end far enough for you ( they are suprisingly tall bikes) Just
