I tightened and untightened mine maybe 5 times before each one became brittle and cracked |

My new replacement one lasted less than a month before suddenly spinning around in the breeze one day |

I think once they do that they are basically fucked ...not sure of the internal construction but it isn't the joint where you adjust that comes loose but the stem where it emerges from the nut .....just guessing that there must be some form of taper on the end of the stem that shears off. Can only think that newer mirrors were cheaper quality as the original on my X1 supported the weight of the bike when I got knocked off andis infact put back on again now. |

![]() ![]() No reason why the threaded portion that screws into the m/cyl. or clutch perch should ever come lose. Adjustment bit works like a gland fitting ie. basically an olive that is locked onto the shaft via tapers in the seat and lock nut.......this section can corrode but a strip and clean will see it like new. |

It feels like the olive portion has sheared off so even though it is tightened as tight as a tight thing the stem just spins around frely with a slight vertical bit of play in it. Just suddenly span free whilst riding along. |
