try oxford throw over panniers something like this on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/oxford-motorc ... Sw~AVYsWPJ decathlon are good for cheap one man tents. |

As far as tents are concerned, ask yourself what you need from a tent, there are a lot of very technical tiny lightweight tents used by hikers, they pack very small but.... Do you need to hide in it from foul weather? store panniers? Helmets? Wet gloves? rucksack? etc..... If the answer is yes to the above, then a hiking tent is not for you (nobody has ever complained about too much space). Budget, if not a problem then http://www.adventurebikeshop.co.uk/prod ... -Solo-Tent (on my wish list, can't see it happening at this price). if there is restriction, the smaller the budget the less choices are available the easier the choice becomes. Pack size (dont worry about weight, your not carrying it, the bike is) - very important, the size/ shape needs to work for you (really talking about pop up tents here) and how you will pack. IF not carrying a pillion, packing is easy, a pair of throwovers and the tent is strapped across the top of the panniers. With a pillion I would recomend investing in a rack. Bit of a ramble, good luck with the search. |

The Buell throwover panniers are pretty good if you can get hold of them then chuck the tent and sleeping bag on the back seat. Vango do good two man tents that give you room for storage and pack down small. I have a Snugpak sleeping bag that is very warm and compresses down small and a Snugpak sleeping mat.

A small tent with a separate porch area is the best bet , that way if your gear gets wet through you can put the wet stuff in the porch and keep the sleeping area dry  If riding solo tank bag, soft panniers and then the tent across the rear of the seat works well, if carrying a pillion then a ventura rack is the best bet

Nice one Kev. I got the Ventura setup due to your advice in a past post. Acquired all of it, except the L-bracket over the winter through Fleabay. Even got double 51 litre bags for longer trips. Less than half price, great 'cos its expensive stuff. I only ordered the L-brackets last week because I was hoping some would pop up for sale... Theyre £130 new. The agent said they will take at least 2 months to produce and deliver as they're not in stock for Buell. FYI anyone thinking about this system. Great quality the stuff I have got though...hoping the brackets arrive before May

SOMEWHERE  I do have a spare set tucked away amongst my Aladdins cave of bits couldn't find them the last time i looked so hence haven't offered them to anybody on here. Although a simple design and lightweight they are made of very strong thin wall tubing.

Fully loaded for 6 months round half of Australia (note no tent)  Fully loaded for 6 month trip round New Zealand. No tent, just waterproof sleeping bag, all the luggage is on an ally frame rucksack
