Old oil tank for X1 any condition as all i want it for is to get one made in alloy, you can have it back when copied.

I'm sure there's a thread about it, but what's so good about fitting an alloy oil tank?

Purely cosmetic, would of purchased a metmachex but :maz: says they don't fit very good and catch on the battery because they were made for the S1 not X1 so thought i might get one made that fits correctly. Also might be able to make it slightly larger to accommodate my non standard seat housing.

Touching batt might not be good :o Let me know if you are having one made and what the cost is, please. You never know it might be the next thing at it's first service. Not that we've got it yet - I think that Magz is arranging things with Maz. Maybe... :D

Got one on my X1 and it holds more oil. I suspect the ally might conduct the heat away better than plastic.

Nick,
I know I got a 'spare' (was leaking) tank from the guy I bought my X1 from, but having looked through the boxes in the loft of the garage I have drawn a blank so looks like I must have thrown it ....... very unlike me (hoarding tendencies normally prevail)
If it does turn up then I'll let you know.
Jez

Can't you get Maz to talk to Metmachex to get them to make it to the correct design?

Had a metmachex one on mine for years, never had any bother. Extra capacity and a heat sink on a hot running engine.

Can't believe no one got an old one knocking about.

I suspect that there are loads of M2/S1 ones under benches in sheds up and down the land... lOl
I was shocked to see the juxtaposition of wiring etc on Pedro's X1 with a Metmachex tank :o and therefore fully understand Maz's advice not to fit one on those models... and hence your desire to have a better one fabricated! :yup:

lOl Why should they listen? And re-tool on one man's whim? How many more are they going to sell from now on? Indeed, are they actually making any now or just clearing existing stock? And wouldn't that be admitting their existing design is flawed? ...leading to them having to recall those already sold?... or pay out on fire/ accident/ death?...

They are Metmachex, Metal Machining Experts... They make bespoke stuff, just as sillyb's new supplier will be making, however Metmachex already have a tank design that can be modded.
