Careful what you buy. I think the 06s had a bigger selector shaft hole than previous years.

For models of 2007 and later the chain adjuster thread was revised also:

but 2002 and 2003 models primary covers are said to have the most robust clutch lip.

Just checked, they changed in 06 model year.

Your frame number will tell you the year of your bike, not your reg and not the date of manufacture - 5MZKX01E*632***** tells you it is an 06 and 5MZSX12J*53****** tells you it is an 05.

If you bought a cover that didn't fit, you would need to find the selector shaft, which if secondhand, the vendor may have.

Nice find by Gunter, the part number changed from an 06 to 06A in 2007. I guess they can add an A to the year the part was introduced (06) if it is backwards compatible to the model year - i.e. fit is the same.
