MoT(ITV) issues? - I'm surprised - My S3 (also in Spain) just passed with a V&H SS2R on. My indicators weren't working 100% either.

But if you've hit a picky tester - I see your point. It's why I keep my tubb'd original locked away for safety.

What size headers did 2001 X1's have?

Why do you need an ITV if you are sending it back to the UK?

Saying that, you are welcome to borrow my 2" standard muffler, not sure how to get it to you nor if it is economical to do so.

Other alternative is to find the chopper guys and ask where the ITV station of choice is.

Sorry haven't changed signature yet.....

Thanks for the offer.....

The problem comes as I am about to matriculate the bike onto Spanish plates, they have to do an engineers report etc...The tester felt bad for me, but 105/6 db is what it scored on the doors....and the 'e'marking and nowhere to put the probe was a problem....

As above in my response, I will measure the headers , they look like 2",but I may be wrong, the Supertrapp I can take out some of the discs, but it will still fail on 'e'marking and nowhere to put the probe... They also mentioned of there was no support for the number plate at a lower height (like most new motorcycles) and the fact I had a small plate on the bike. But the exhaust fail was listed as 'grave' (Fail) on three points.

I am now at a loss as I only have a photocopy of the V5 stamped and signed, to show I own the bike, as I have started the matriculation process!

Alternatively, can anyone recommend a Tuv/'e' marked exhaust that is NOW still available for a 51 X1 Buell? (and you can change out the baffles ;-) )

Has anyone tried a GPR exhaust? They do one for a S1 , (Maz will it fit?)

confirmed they are 2" headers (look slightly smaller) going into one under the primary casing, the supertrapp looks like just a slip on, will upload photos later....

Sorry guys a bit dark as its underground, but they are just under 2" headers by the looks of it, so if there are only 2 sizes, theses are the 2".

I understand that some Supertrapp pipes can get EU end caps, does anyone know where I can get spares?

BabyB - HOW are you importing? - As a plain import or as as importation due to a change of residence within the EU? - There is (was anyway) a huge difference. Any half decent "gestoria" would know this.

The tubers were NEVER imported into Spain and you could have done what I did - Shrug and say "It came like that". If you could(can) prove it passed it's MoT in the UK with that pipe there is precedence for it to be accepted (albeit SVA) with that pipe. Before 15th July 2011 this is supposed to be an administrative alteration to documentation.

Problem is that they know now. So you'll probably have to make some effort. Is there a sticker on the frame with the dB limit?. Mine says 98dB at 3000rpm. You're allowed 4dB leeway - LEGALLY.

EU end caps - Never heard of them - I get my 'trapp bits from the US though. Sadly the 4" open end (make room for probe) says "not for road use" so you'd be stuffed. The trapp is a crapp (sic) pipe anyway. Maybe worth a PM to Gunther as The Germans understand these issues better than most. Ideal is a modified OEM Stainless pipe.

Pash - On Tenerife - there may not be much option. It's not like the UK here. Tests stations ONLY do tests, are sanctioned enterprises and are licensed on pretty much a "per head" basis.

My "local" is friendly though run by the TÜV. But the other two in the region are real nit-pickers. I'll take a guess that on Tenerife they're also more used to ex-pats trying it on a bit.

I am importing as part of my possessions as you are allowed to do, import taxes are nil as its part of my possessions (tenerife charge tax as outside EU for taxation) all
paperwork done and dusted there....

http://www.lottermanns-bikes.de/02_Site ... E.html#a04

These guys do a TUV/EU approved one.....at least you can get a probe in there....

Will thoses pipes take a standard exhaust? Will I need mounting brackets?

You can get a Certificate of conformity for the bike, I got one from Harley specifically for my bike. Yes it does have a sticker saying 98db @ 3150rpm...

The other sticky point was no 'e' marking on the exhaust, he didnt even care the bracket was cracked....(is there a how to on modding the bracket?)

Right the "€" thing looks as if it's really his sticking point. This maybe due to recent legal changes here where they tried to block fitment of ANYTHING not OEM.

This was blocked as against EU ruling BUT "€" pipes and odd screens stayed in as a must. And it's theoretically retro active. However there is a ruling that you can apply for non-standard parts to be homologated if they fitted and in use before 15th Jan 2011.

IN theory if the papers are being changed due to the move thing then they're "oblidged" to accept it as is. But this legal thing has most ITV stations being very cautious. I fully expected my S3 to fail this year - but it passed and thus is legalised with the V&H on.

Did you ever have the original? - if not you could push the "This is how it always has been and was legal so in the UK" argument. I'd also add the "and the bastards have gone out of business so I cant buy an OEM exhaust. " argument. How good's your Spanish?

Those adjustable endcaps can be found on e-bay too. But open (to get the probe in) they'll be too loud and afaik are not € stamped - they may simply come with a certificate.

Maybe worth a call to Maz and/or Tubbs to see if they have a shitty old one lying about. But I'd take into account that on Tenerife the original will rust even bloody faster. V&H did have an "€" marked one at one stage - One solution might be to find something that can be quiet and have somebody engrave it before you fit it.

Thanks mate.

If I can get the adjustable end cap, I can open it up for the probe. When he goes to do the sound test, I will close it up again ;)

It will only be the 'e' marking that stumps me....

If it were me - I'd not spend that much on a harleyesque solution. Really.
