Am toying with shopping in my GS and going back to a(nother) Uly

Went GS for my back, but am thinking of 'doing it properly' this time - bar risers, better seat, maybe lowering by a touch to allow for the slight height increase of a gel seat...

God I miss it!

If nothing else, I'm thinking of having it for the summer, then choosing which to keep at the end...

It's great - I do love it.... but I really really miss my Buells.

My Uly was agitating my back and the GS is just that bit lower, more upright and ultimately more comfortable.

I also (like many) assumed BMWs are more reliable than most - they're not.

Don't get me wrong, it's been good to me, but still things do go wrong and they cost money to fix. So if I can get a Uly set up so that it doesn't cause me more back pain, I'd rather spend my money on a bike I love and think whimsically about than one that's great, but not ultimately my first choice.

I've always gone a bit off-piste with bikes and Buells just got under my skin - With my I GS I enjoy the ride home - with my Buells I counted the minutes until home time!

I did exactly that the GS was fine but a V twin it aint owned an 08 first > GS > back to Uly. I also have back issues but the Uly will adapt.

But touching down in`t a problem fitted with an Albert can its a keeper.

Ulysses.... definitely.

Ok, so all systems go.

Am after a good clean Ulysses or XT

Ultimately I need Ulysses with a lower than the original aftermarket 'low' seat and better padding.

My thinking is a XT or a lowered X that then buys me a little height gap to have a seat gel padded for my back.

So...

- Low(ish) miles
- Low seat
- either XT or a £300 budget for a lower shock
- aftermarket exhaust - 'Albert'/Free Spririts/Remus...
- topbox rack at least, full luggage preferable
- taller screen (XT or aftermarket latter Ulysses one)

I need to cover all of the above in a £5k budget, so depending on what the spec/price of the bike is depends on what I'll need to spend on the other bits

Any leads gratefully received!

:) :D

The bike I've just put down the deposit on needs a aftermarket exhaust

Hearing a lot about these Albert Cans.. I'll have to do me a little search :yup:

1 owner from new, 10k miles (full 10k service will be done to the official Buell schedule), 2006 model, touring screen, 'showroom condition', full Buell luggage (panniers and topbox) and low seat.

£3990

I have to say I'm pretty pleased with that!

Can't wait!

(now, lower shock, 'proper' exhaust and seat padding...)

I'll let you know about the seat Pash - Thanks for the offer. I'm keen to try and have the black/yellow low seat it's coming with padded

No worries...

There are a few recent posts about lowering Ulys and one older one that springs to mind where a guy local to me actually bought one that had been lowered.

I am a tall 5' 7" and with the 07 seat (lower than the 06 and narrower at the front than the Buell aftermarket gel one) I have had no issues with the height of the bike.

I know I am probably preaching to the converted, as as you may remember I bought your Remus off you some years ago - sold it to theflyingdutchman, but it does everything you could ever wish for.

The only gripe I have is the shitty fuelling with a baffled Remus at part throttle at 2500 to 3000 RPM, something I plan to fix on a weekend where I am not overcommitted...

Ah I do indeed remember!

Love the Remus, but not sure I could/should stretch to another £500+

I didn't know that about the 07 seat though, being lower/narrower than the 2006 'low' seat

I'd love to be able to compare them - might save me buying a new shock - I'm 5"10, but wanted the extra height drop to allow for a slight padding of the seat - maybe on 07 seat is a better option?

Seat info here - http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/m ... 1240953451

Remus can be had for 250 S/H, but an Albert may make more sense...

07 seat it is then!

Now, to find one ;)

Have PM'd Albert, though also seeing some thumbs-up for the Sabre engineering modded exhausts too.

If I was going modded, I would use Tubbs every time. His exhausts are a known quantity and the finish is durable...

......I'd put money on it that it isn't and even if it was, it wouldn't be anything like the bike actually needs
