Post subject:  All Rounder suggestions...

I'm looking for another bike to keep the X1 company.... ;)

Ideally I'm looking for a bike that will:

Do the daily comute (only 15 miles each way)
Tour (some luggage capability)
Can be used as an occsaional track bike
Relatively easy/cheap to maintain

Maintaining the 'V' twin theme... was thinking Suzuki SV650, but that maybe too small, now starting to think Honda VTR1000 which fits I think (although tank range is limited).

Any other suggestions appreciated.... :yup:

600 /650 bantids are as cheap as chips, loads of second hand spares around...my brother uses them for the same kind of work, shed loads of pattern parts available too (wemoto).

Later VTRs had a slightly bigger tank ;). A 1/2" spacer under the rear shock livens up the handling a treat. If it's got a grabby clutch, it could be the big support bearing getting worn, but it's not common. Not hard to fix but you do have to split the cases (top end stays intact 8-) )

Loads of midrange grunt :yup:

The SV is an ok choice, any age, and you can find an older model real cheap just now. My wife had one for a couple of years, and I kept pinching it for my commute :D
I'm 6' tall and found it plenty big enough. It was easy to service, and like the CX spares are cheap and plentiful, It's got a surprising amount of grunt for a wee beastie, especially when you wind it up :twisted:

Well - if that became a rule for the forum - we would lose 75% of postings :shock: :shock:

try a Guzzi Breva 1100;

when i was looking for something more lively than my california, i tried one and was really impressed with how easy it was to ride, comfy and did everything well.

i just wanted a bit more soul which was why i ended up with a buell.

( but a good SV650 wont be that much slower, and will almost certainly be cheaper to fix. )

when i was out in Oz a few years ago i saw a Honda VT1000 - which looked like a really sensible bike - NOT the VTR, but a normal commuter style street bike - reminded me of an SR500 with that wonderful litre V twin shoe-horned in - why dont they import stuff like that to the uk instead of all the plastic missiles ?
