In his defence I didn't actually mention that I hadn't already done it and, given that I'd previously taken the cam case off and pushed it through my bandsaw, he probably assumed only a complete tool would have reassembled it using the original oil drive gear.

Pash, thanks for the link to the twin disc stuff.

Neater than the one I made (I left more metal as I wasn't sure about stresses). Not wishing to sound like this bike is a constant "work in progress" (it is!) but I have a pair of ex TeamBegger upsidedowners to fit next so I'll shamelessly copy those designs for the new forks. I just need to speak to Andy (Spondon) about making a set of yokes first (thanks Maz).

How far has your "indestructible aftermarket gear" made it along the workbench? No pressure mate....

:yt: - Sounds familiar, I should be making a wiring loom for my wife's cafe racer. Or was it fix the kitchen units? Paint the stairs?...

I'm using 6-pot Nissins - the original Buell one on the RHS and a left-hand Nissin on the, er, left.

If I'm being honest they're not the same height - the LHS is slightly lower as I mounted it on a small aluminium bracket. But it doesn't seem to affect the handling or braking.

Braking power is amazing - way more than anyone really needs!

where did the left one come from? :?:

Muzza,

Its a 6-pot Nissin - exactly the same as Buell but with Nissin written on the side of it.

Got it from FWR Ltd (http://www.fwr.co.uk) back in 2006. It cost £175 for the caliper and £90 for the 5/8" (16mm) bore master cylinder (original is 1/2" or 13mm). Probably a lot more these days, you'll need to check...

Discs are Braking from http://www.intobikes.co.uk - Part No. STX42D, £170 3 or 4 years ago.

Got the bike back from Mr Tubbs - wheels are a thing of beauty and the engine seems to build revs faster (lighter pistons and all that...).

Ok, not exactly Ash-like compositions but you get the idea.....

'course it's never finished. I don't like the hideous purple headlight brackets and I've grown bored with the big, rubbery indicators. Chrome mirror is a bit too 1970s as well. And the seat could do with repadding/reshaping. I also need to remake the lefthand caliper bracket before I go anywhere but overall I'm really pleased with the results.

Next year's plans include the upside down forks and maybe a pair of chrome headlights (can't decide if this will ruin it?).

I'll get the bracket made and let you know how it rides.

Jesus, is it that obvious!

Yeah, wheels are lovely and they fit, thank God (well, thank Tubbs actually)! I'm pretty pleased with it so far. There's still something not quite right though - dunno what it is but it looks great in the flesh, not so great in photos. Maybe its that bisexual colour scheme - thinking of spraying it Reactor Orange. Can't decide.

P.S. Thanks for pointing out I hadn't tightened up the r/h clip-on properly.... :oooops:

Will you have to have the wheels crack tested regularly?
