Does any one have a handful of the T27 (I think) bolts for attaching the trim panels, mudguards, pretty much everything on a Uly?

Willing to pay, but not the £3 each which HD want :o It seems that the cheese they are made of got hot and a few of mine have gone a little soft :(

Why not mount all the plastics using 1/4 unc stainless domed head cap heads (copperslipped of course) or are the torx head bolts shouldered ?

There's a thought. Yes they are shouldered, but nothing a small washer wouldn't solve.

The shoulder is there to prevent the plastic part from being crushed; the shoulder should tighten onto the metal base whatever and the plastic just gets nipped, nothing more.
Any washer used with a standard bolt must therefore replicate the size of the shoulder on the special bolt, ie the OD must match the hole in the plastic and the thickness be the same as the thickness of the plastic... you'll probably have to make something as there'll be no standard washer like that.
And that... is why the proper bolts are £3 apiece... lOl

If I could be bothered driving to the local bolt supplier for £3 I could get a handful...

You could try the set up that I once (grenuinely) saw on one of the bikes I bought:

Bolt - neoprene washer, flat washer, spring washer, flat washer, neoprene washer - through the first bike fixing - neoprene washer, flat washer, neoprene washer - through the second bike fixing - neoprene washer, flat washer, spring washer, flat washer, nut.

22 (or was it 24 - I can't remember) fairing bolts set up this way made any disassembly take rather longer than you would expect.

Oh, the previous owner was a RAF mechanic: the very best "previous owner" that you could hope for.

I've found metric online for allen cap shoulder screws at £5 for a pack of 50, still looking for imperial though.

As for penny wise and pound foolish - there's a saying up here,

You'd have to be bat shit crazy to buy bolts at a main dealer.
