Unless the black paint has been removed, they aren't Thunderstorm heads. They are supposedly from 98 S3 which makes them Lightning heads. Besides, I'd never buy anything that had been monkeyed about with by potenmtially any knob head holding a Dremel. You can do a lot of damage very quickly in the name of "porting". And the bloke says they'll work with Thunderstorm pistons, I think that proves he hasn't a clue.

Right about the colour; t'storm, however, was available on the '98 S3's, at least here in the States. Don't know if it was standard, though, or an option.

Ah, the Dremel. Turned 10,000 inept DIYers into cylinder head specialists.
Life would have been much safer if they had banned Dremels, instead of Pistols. ;)

IIRC, the Blast has a Thunderstorm piston (15 deg squish band) in a Lightning head (10 deg squish band) which results in a triangular cross section ring at the edge of the cylinder which is poor for both emissions and knock.

Anyway, agreed above, but not knowing the history, they could have been blasted to remove the paint...

I wouldn't advise anyone to buy "ported" heads Nick, of whatever flavour, unless the documentation was immaculate and from a proven reliable source. It's far, far easier to produce a doorstop than a high performance head. I've seen some real horrors in my lifetime. As usual with EBay, "caveat emptor".

I wouldn't buy them, and they were not mine to sell, even those that think they know a bit about porting may not see the whole picture... High flow figures on a flow bench does not mean good mixing and good combustion performance...
