It's thrown a rod ie. front conrod is hanging out of the crankcase. |

me being a numpty on the wizardry of engines - how would this happen normally? - does it point to some miss use at all ?

No mis-use......front rod big end failure is the cause and for some strange reason, I've only ever seen this (several times) on M2's and a couple of XB's |

I had a con rod fail at 3k miles on a XB. At the time it happened, the bike was pulling away from a junction. |
